But the definition of an elite club is always changing, and this occurs because of player movements.

Why did Aguero join Man City? What was so elite about City in 2011?

You would think with your history you would be more open to players spurning the chance to join 'elite clubs'. Anyways, its not like Arsenal are not one of the most famous names in English football

What im saying is, if you join Bayern because its 'guaranteed trophies', then your mindset is all wrong.
Winning trophies is a bad mindset haha. So potentially being one of the most decorated Englishman isn’t what players should think about. Plus guaranteed being in the champions league every season is also a positive of being out there whereas in England only City are probably the only Guaranteed top 4 team

i think the Gooner is correct. If he joined celtic so he could win everything and become the most decorated Englishman, he'd be slagged off for having no ambition, testing himself against comparitive teams.

We had a project in place that was clearly going to make us an elite club.

Arsenal decided that being one of the 'history' clubs was enough, and decided to give up on winning stuff.

Your title challenge this season was an anomaly. Kind of like Leicester taking advantage of everyone shitting the bed in 15/16.

But unlike Arsenal, they at least had the mental fortitude to see it through.

Hope this helps.

I think you are describing the Arsenal pre Arteta.

They definitely have a project now and are backing it with £.

Time will tell if it will truly be successful but I expect Arsenal to be challenging for the foreseeable.

They'll have to hope, as happened this season, that Chelsea remain a shambles, Liverpool have an awful fun of form and United remain relatively poor away from home. And this doesn't take into account Newcastle really pushing on.

As I said, this season was an anomaly.

Are Newcastle pushing on. FFP will cap their ability to spend at will.

I'd say securing Champion's League football the season after avoiding relegation is pushing on.

Ahh, good old fans of 'history' clubs. Praying FFP will stop those dirty oil clubs taking their place at the top table.
