Declan Rice

Fair play to Millsy - I remember the old bluemoon days and he used to be a bit of a drama queen and was fairly annoying. But seems to have grown up and has decent sources at city now.

I want Rice now purely for the piss boiling it will produce. So fingers crossed TH is right - seemingly Declan would be happy to move up north.

Not read much on this, but having a quick scan through seems like potentially what me and my Son where talking about today.

Arrogant City fans maybe but we don’t see Rice wanting Arsenal over us and Pep, why would you.

We don’t doubt that he would move to Arsenal however. CL football, more money and better players (more chance of trophies then WH).

If what I think is that City will only do this if Kelvin Phillips move (this is basically an upgrade).

Despite what everyone claims we run efficiently and we won’t spend £90 million or whatever plus wages, whilst having a £50 or whatever he is rated at also picking up a wage, without at least giving the £50 million player at least a couple of seasons.

I do think Pep is not won over by Phillips the player (agree with poster above he is a very popular in the squad and supposed to be a real top bloke from people who know him).

So the situation is does he move or not, if he does then I think Rice is ours.

However, in the meantime Rice’s team have to control the narrative. It can’t be he wants City but waiting to see if Phillips moves much better to say he wishes to stay in London but weighing up options.

Would be a smart move

After I said that, I then went on to read 30 pages of people shitting on Phillips purely because they are 'worried' he blocks us from signing Rice. Who we are in no apparant way even remotely linked with.

It reminded me of the Ake thread last year. And the Rodri thread a couple of yeara ago. Zin every year. etc

We may or may not be interested in Rice. But I don't buy the club are pushing any player out, and I think it is piss poor from folk on here.
Philips genuinely seems a nice guy, who I like, but I didn't think he was good enough for our club before he came and Pep's use of him this past year indicates he doesn't trust him either. Pep will have seen his ability close up each day in training.

He started 4 games this season, 2 of which we lost, (Southampton and Brentford). He's played less than 600 minutes in all competitions.

All players want to win lots of trophies in their career and I can understand him wanting to stay, but with the greatest respect, I wish we could persuade him to move to West ham and give the club an opportunity to bid for Rice, who is much more capable of improving our club.

Unfortunately I think the chances of him being persuaded to move to West ham are slim.

The problem what Phillips has got is that he is trying to dislodge the best defensive mid in the world by a country mile and it’s never going to happen . Don’t get me wrong I like Kalvin and was happy we got him but I haven’t seen nothing to suggest he will make it

Yeah I totally agree. I doubt Kalvin is even in the top 5 best DMs in world football and I’m not sure he has the ability to play as a number 8. His reading of the game isn’t good enough and his passing isn’t either. As Pep has said, he can teach people, but unfortunately he doesn’t have the time if someone is too far behind.

Believe what you want mate- not that arsed. What Kalvin told me he has literally said to the press on countless occasions in the last weeks !? Why on earth would I not share it when it’s literally public knowledge. Pep was a key factor in us signing Phillips- of course he rates him you pillock. He’s struggled in his first 12 months but has been a key figure behind the scenes for team morale and is actually well liked by all the players and Pep and his coaching team. We will see a different player next year.
To be fair I got nearly two weeks of fun out of my £5 bet at 25-1 Rice to us. Tumbled to odds on. Hope Phillips turns it around. He seems like a decent lad.

I didn’t say the club had shared that as its strategy. I said it was a journalists view and it made sense to me. Please don’t read things in to the post that have not been stated
Fair enough but it makes zero sense. Would suggest the exact opposite as a strategy makes more sense, let Arsenal think we won’t go that high and get the deal done before they can up their offer. Bottom line I think both clubs know what West Ham want and they can sit back and wait if Rice is happy to go to either until one club walks away. Personally think it’s more likely we walk unless we include Phillips as we have done before and a) would need to convince Phillips and b) tend to move on quickly if deal overpriced

Why would Phillips know if City were talking to West Ham yesterday as TH states?

Players often talk about themselves but hardly ever know about the current state of negotiations regarding other players.

Doesn’t mean Rice will not leave for Arsenal but if TH says we are still talking to West Ham I don’t think I’d be asking him to check his sources.

His agent would be privy to information if it was a swap + cash deal. I think Phillips has spoken to West Ham too, as he’s part of the deal he’ll know what’s going on.
