Declan Rice

We spoke again to Sullivan last night.

Pep has also spoken to Rice.

Phillips still needs to go out I think.
Well I know for a fact Phillips isn’t going anywhere this year so forget that. That comes from the horses mouth.

All well and good speaking to Sullivan - We speak to agents and clubs every day. Means literally nothing.

Can kind of understand why he would choose Arsenal, given what has happened with Phillips. But ANYONE choosing not to work for Pep and learn the game, is fucking dumb IMO.

What happened with Phillips?

What about what happened to Walker, Stones, Grealish, Foden, Sterling, Barry, Lescott etc. They’ve completely lived the dream. If he’s looking at what happened with Phillips and not the majority of the crew then he can’t have much faith in himself.

Having said that, sounds like we’re not in for him as deep as Arsenal are so unless something changes then he’ll probably go there because that’s the only real option.

We don't generally tell them we are bidding mate. That's not cool and you get a bad rep with other clubs.

Phillips is on record already saying he wants to stay.

My argument it we need to lose another midfielder if we want Rice.

Best to just move onto other targets.

Wanted Koulibally, wanted Kounde, got Dias.

Wanted Bellingham, wanted Rice, got __________

Barella maybe?

Btw I really think Pep rates Perrone.. heard Pep fawn on him more than Sergio Gomez.. take that for what you will.. so I didn't think City would really like to block his progress even if he's one for the future. Maybe he does get a McAtee type development loan.

Fucking nuts if we let Arsenal get Rice imo.
I like Rice a lot, so I get the feeling. However, there are plenty of other players out there, just as good or better. I feel uneasy because of the unknown, we don't know who else we are targeting, but we will all feel better once we know who else we are targeting ;).

Why all the negativity in here?
Has he actually said he's not coming or is just fanny flapping and conjecture?

Views are changing on here by the hour with each twitter post.

He may be coming in which case he's exactly what we need and will be an excellent signing.

He also may not be coming in which case he's overrated, not that special and glad he's gone to Arsenal.

Whilst being a trophy winning machine has undoubtedly made us a very attractive club to play for, I can understand why some players might prefer to go to a team that's on the up and try to take them to the next level.

They may see that as more rewarding than coming to City and potentially winning a fourth consecutive title where their contribution could be overlooked as the outside perception, no matter how wrong it is, will be that it was inevitable we'd win the league anyway.

Whereas if they go to a team like Arsenal and end up winning the league then they wil be seen as the difference maker and will receive far more praise and personal recognition which I think most footballers care about. If Rice chooses Arsenal over us then I suspect this could be a factor.

Additionally, he is more likely to start every game at Arsenal than he is at City and I'm sure he will have seen how difficult it's been for Phillips to get in to our team. Anyway, it's not like he'd be going to Crystal Palace or something. He'd be joining a Champions League club that were very close to winning the league last season with owners that are clearly willing to invest whatever it takes to compete at the top.

Personally, I don't really care if he joins them as I think he's being massively overrated due to his nationality and I don't think he makes Arsenal that much better. I suspect whoever we get instead will end up being a lot better and we will look back on this as another bullet dodged like previous ones that have mostly ended up at United.

You got exposed tactically by Sporting Lisbon, Brighton , West ham , dismantled at our ground, Forest , Southampton nearly pulled it off so did Bournemouth. You lost the league due to Arteta not being Tactically astute all teams mentioned copyed the tactics improved them a little bit at a time they cut spaces off and exposed your high line. Counter attack, control , second balls and controlling transitions

You have plan A and no plan b. When plan A fails of possession, quick passes , wing play you have no out. You can't hold leads either. When it's going good your players are brilliant but when the pressure is at the highest you crumbled Anfield a major example of that.

Your player of the season Odegaard a captain when everything is going well , a coward when the pressure is high lost the ball in midfield against us and never recovered. Star boy as your fans like to call him Saka went missing when pressure was at the highest at the end of the season. When leaders were needed they were not there.

The question is, is Arteta good enough to find a way to win against teams next season who know how you play now, since your no longer the surprise package, they know how you play , they know what you want to do and teams at the end of the season that I mentioned sussed you out. Which cost you the league and a European trophy.
great, great post, sounds harsh but everything said is stone cold truth, the Gooner got told some harsh truths right there

Totally cool with either outcome. I don't rate Rice as highly as others do, but if it's his choice and he doesn't want to come here I'd never want him. Players should crawl over broken glass to play for Pep and us. Any player who doesn't is a bottler. People may say look at Philips but the fucker has picked up three medals without playing many minutes since he's been here.

You are correct, sir!

Since leaving Manchester, I’ve seen them both play multiple times, but, seriously….?

Born & Bred Blue. Grew up at Maine Road…literally…was a Junior Blue, played for City as a kid. On my wife’s first visit to Manchester before we got married, she was on the Kippax singing “Fuck off, Villa” with everyone else. Ergo, she passed the matrimony test!!

Both kids been over numerous times for various games, with highlights being getting sunburnt at the 0-0 Huddersfield game with my wife at the Etihad when we lifted the trophy, a week long trip to London with my son, culminating in the 6-0 FA Cup win against Watford, and a CL game with both kids (older girl, younger boy).

Still all City fans and NONE OF US could give a monkey’s about baseball!

;-)
Chicago mate thanks for that reply, and the family story Keep the faith my friend.
For me first game 67 at 8 yr, like many seen the good and the bad and also thought I'ed never see us win a pot, oh what a rollercoaster :-)
Any way off for the Cubs v Cards game at the Hammers ground ;-)
