If your good enough you are in the squad and even get a chance to play. Simple.
He played well when he played so fair play to him but he clearly hasn't progressed as Mancini would have kept him on. Instead he has had a at the time 16yr old take his place in the squad.

I would like to see our youth players come through to the first team but for many it is a big step psychologically, that is why Real often sell good prospects who go on to better things like Mata and Soldado and even buy some back like De La Red Granero and Cambiasso, none of them were guaranteed to make the step and perhaps the pressure would have been too much, better to sell player to another to develop them (the team will have a stake in their development unlike a loan) and maybe even buy them back, Real's cantera pays for itself under this policy, even Barca have started similar buy-back clauses. If Boyata does become the business after the club let him go I would hope he is n't bitter as I would love to see him back.
Good luck to him in his career. He has some truth, no young players will come trough in this year or the next. Some of them not good enough, but even the better ones wont get a good chance.
Suarez (will be 19), Razak (20) can play any good in League Cup matches they wont start a single match in PL this year.
Also it will be hard for Mancini to put Rekik (18) into the defence on Tuesday because Nastasic needs playing time, Maicon needs the same, Kolarov didnt start 3 matches in a row because of Clichy, also Kolo didnt play anything so far.
Probably better to start with the 352 and give Kolarov+Maicon the wingback roles where they really belong and there is an extra place for a defender.

Don't blame him I would feel pissed off if I saw Savic being played ahead of him, Boyata and Nedum were both treated unfairly.
