Defensive Midfield Targets/Options

Just do what it takes and get the best there is; Kante.

Chelsea will probably change manager again, have a possible transfer ban looming and may not even have CL football the way the league table is shaping up. We should stop scraping the bottom of barrels or hoping someone average most people haven't heard of comes good enough to replace the key part of our team, and just slap down an offer they can't refuse in summer.
Give Pep a choice between Kante and Jorginho , he'll take Jorginho.

Would be absolutely fine with Rodri being the choice this summer. Weren't there rumors of them giving him an extension upping his release clause though?

So far it worked with you only Dax)

But seriously, we're running out of options, I can't suggest any other suitable candidates. Ndombele is brainless, Aouar and Lo Celso are too small and fragile, Saul - too expensive, Rice lacks quality on the ball. We'll end up with Zinchenko as DM this way.

If Gundogan doesn't sign a new contract I'd take Aouar. Even if he's not an out and out DM he could probably do the same as Gundo. Play in the dual 8 or when Dinho is out play as DM. But if we're talking someone strictly to for Dinho's position I think Diawara could be a good option.

@Dax777 what do you make of Lo Celso as potential Dinho replacement? He's definitely gettable, though we're not the only one interested.

I haven't seen any link to us. But to be fair, I'm a part a minority who don't think Dihno will be hard to replace.

The player, might not play like Dihno, but we might be better. Just like we are better now without Yaya, even though prime Yaya was unique.

Rodri, Tonali, Auour, Llorente or someone of this Ilj will be that player and we'll thrive. Lo Celso strikes me more as a Bernado Silva type than a metronomic DM. But he is gifted. Didn't know we were interested though.

Wouldn't mind at all if we took a punt on Llorente if the price is right. He's being wasted in Madrid.

Iker Pozo has just signed a 4 year contract with us so we're looking at keeping all of our options open going forward. He'll be 19 this August and with Matt Smith a possibility too the future not looking too shabby if they ban us for a ridiculous time.

I’ve seen that Pozo has trained with the first team many times, and it looks like he was going to play vs Burton, but had to play for the EDS since Claudio Gomes was injured. I really like Pozo, and believe he’s a typical Pep player. Very good on the ball, intelligent and a great passer. The only negative is that he’s a little short and seems weak. I’m hoping that at least one of Matt Smith, Tommy Doyle and Iker Pozo will feature in the preseason

We have an option to recall Ante Palaversa from loan next December.
If we’re given a transfer ban, we could just recall him whenever we wanted to right? He’s already signed and has gone back on loan, and the transfer ban won’t let us register any new players, but Palaversa is already registerred I think. Of course Hadjuk Split wouldn’t be happy if we took him back earlier than planned, but we could still do it

I think the recall clause activates only in December, we can't do it this summer unfortunately.

Meanwhile Ojogo are reporting: Porto's captain Hector Herrera has agreed a 5-year contract with Atletico Madrid and will join them as a free agent. Considering that they've got Koke, Saul, Rodri, Partey for CM roles could it mean someone is leaving?

Not really, you're looking at them as 4 CMs but in that case Atleti start every game with 4 CMs, Koke and Niguez play outside/ahead of Rodri and Partey most games, probably just necessary squad depth.

I know, but they also have Lemar, Juanfran, Correa etc. to play outside. And Partey have already complained about the lack of playing time in December.
