Defensive Midfielder

Need a full back tucking in there to help out or Bernardo playing CM alongside the DM

I don't know any player who could play that 6 role effectively with the way we set up Sunday, peak Kante maybe

Even Ferna in his prime always had a bit of help

I think CM we are quite weak generally and it's been neglected so much compared to the number of CB's, RB's and Wingers we bring in and the plan usually seems to be play a winger in there to make up the numbers (Bernardo, now Grealish)

Fern looked leggy ? He looked like one of our better players.

Why do people pick a subject and try to make a thing of it, its like the bbc news.

Yes we do need a holding midfielder but to give Fern stick for the spurs game is not justified.

Its glaringly obvious that Mendy and Ake are not good enough for City and need to be moved on ASAP.

But having been a massive Fernandinho fan like 99% of blues I have to say I am very concerned about the holding role in our team for this season. Dinos performance against Spurs seems to have gone under the radar due to Mandy and Ake‘s predictably shit contribution but he was also very poor. Dino will be 37 years old by the time this season finishes and his speed and reaction time in the centre of the park against quicker younger athletes is frequently found wanting, something that was very evident against Spurs. Yes he can read the game but I’m sorry he is nowhere even close to the player who has served us so well up until a couple of seasons ago, he gives away a lot more free kicks these days when he tries to get the ball but is just too late. His pace around the pitch and recovery runs are so much slower. You can’t stop the aging process, it catches up with all players and Dino is no different.

To compound the problem I’m not a big Rodri fan. I feel he is a bit of a plodder and isn’t dynamic enough with no real edge to his game. My biggest criticism is his lack of penetration in his passing range, always going side or backwards. Dino always looks to penetrate when he can but Rodri just plays safe all the time and misses loads of chances turn defences or thread quality passes forward.

Rodri does have a place to play in the squad, but with only him and a player way past his best competing for the position I have big concerns.

We need a striker a left back AND A HOLDING M/F
after 1 game

All that’s happened is he’s lost his individual top level pace, and his full game fitness will take longer to reach at his age and it’ll probably be a good few games into the season before he gets there.

I can't think of a single City player who stood out for the right reasons. We ranged from decent to poor imho, so it wasn't just Fern affected by playing an understrength side vs Spurs, & our curious walking football tactic which gave Spurs confidence & allowed them back into the game.

Fern isn't our future, but in the correct setup he'll more than do for this season.
