Dele Alli

The academy is for backup at almost every club. Barca's main attacking players were all purchased for example. If you get good quality youngsters to bench then its money well spent imo.
Apart from Messi and Iniesta of course but who cares about them eh?

I guess it's the money factor that most posters here are getting turned off of. If it's just that then I don't see the problem. If Pep and the board is okay with it then who are we to be concerned?
But please don't tell me that you guys don't rate this guy. He has already scored 11 goals this season (highest of any midfielder, same as Hazard who is being worshipped by fans and media this season)

And for people who think he is a different player to Merlin so he cannot replace him, well, why can't he? We don't need a player who follows the exact blueprint of Silva (I see Isco being touted).

Ok, if there is anybody at the level of those two (the greatest footballer ever to have lived, and one of the silkiest and classiest midfielders of all time) at the level they were at when they made their debuts; they will be given the chance
Somehow, I DONT think that is the case

I think the poster is making the point that Suarez, Neymar, Sanchez, Ronaldinho, Ibrahimovic etc were all bought for substantial fees, despite le Masia...

I know what his point was, still very strange to gloss over those two when talking about Barca's main attacking players.

He's a good player, no doubt, and could become a top player - but for me it's not worth it. We've got enough young talent as is; we don't need to splash out ridiculous money on this guy.

He's English, young, at Spurs & in form. That makes him at the peak of his value & would cost money that could be far better invested.

Don't believe he improves our first 11 either, he'd be competing with Silva/De Bruyne in the formation we've been playing, no chance he's better than them currently. A replacement for Silva in a few years could work well (different pro's/con's), but can't see us splashing out what it would cost & not playing him.

Would be very surprised if this was genuine or even got close to happening, for me there are far too many obstructions.

Still no idea where people want him to play if we sign him. He can only really play attacking midfield well and we already have a better player there in Kev. Do we force Kev to play somewhere he is less effective to accommodate him? In that case we have to lose the pace on the wings which has been so effective. Or do we spend a fortune on Alli to then play him in a position that isn't his best? He's not a dictating midfield player, he doesn't control the game, he doesn't keep the ball particularly well and you'd lose his only top class attribute (getting in the box and scoring goals) by playing him further back. Or do we have an £80m sub just in case Kev needs a rest and Dave isn't available?

If we want a long term replacement for Spanish Dave (not convinced we need one given that we have De Bruyne now) then we may as well go for someone who can also either play on the wing or play deeper, like Dave has been doing lately. (Personally I think it's a no brainer that his replacement is Bernardo Silva, we wouldn't even have to get new shirts)

It seems no one is thinking that bit through.

Aha. Don't reckon bluemoon opinions are taken into account too strongly by the board.

We have bigger problems, and I don't see him leaving Spurs for a little while; if he performs this well for another couple of seasons then sure, we may well need a player like him then & I'd be happy to go for it. For me at least, the time to go for someone like Alli isn't this summer.
