Dennis Tueart - 50 Years A Blue

Dave Watson was my absolute favourite when I first started watching City, but it was quite a close-run thing between him and Dennis. He was such an exciting player and you felt something good might happen for us whenever he got involved in the game.

In my opinion, he was one of the best players around in the top flight in his first spell at Maine Road. Obviously the FOCs oin here who remember that period will all love him, but I think he's forgotten by a lot of other teams' fans. Deserves to be remembered as a great of that era much more than he is.
Dennis and Big Dave were my joint second favourites, after Frannie, before the takeover.

Now, I’m not so sure

Sad to see what is happening to Dave Watson right now. Time waits for no man. I'm always amazed given how he played and imposed himself that he isn't even 6 feet tall

Yes, I was amazed to read a few years back that he was 5'11". Had always thought he was at least 6'2", but that's a measure of how dominant he was.

Very sad to read now of his continuing struggles. I follow his wife's page that she maintains for him and was pleased to see he was a guest of the club for the Liverpool game, though it wasn't the result he or any of us would have wanted.

His daughter is apparently a filmmaker and is bringing out a movie to tell his story. They had a crowdfunding campaign recently. No doubt it'll be an emotional watch.

He was decent in his second spell until he snapped his achilles, both Dennis and Big Dave are city legends.

Ive only just found out that I share my birthday with Dennis Tuart. I'm not sure how this ever escaped me, seeing as I knew I slso share a birthday with Roberto Mancini as well (also Bruce Lee and Jimmy Hendrix).

My favourite City player. Brought so much flair to the team of the mid 70s. Didn't do so badly when he returned, remember his 4 against Notts County in the LC. Was gutted when he left for Cosmos. Not long after I was in NY and got a shirt with his name on the back. Those days it was painstakingly stitched on.
Always associate Dennis with these 2 classics v Derby

Two of the best games I remember from that era. Tueart outstanding.

Used to go and have a chat with him, when I was visiting a customer at his offices in Lymm. Genuinely nice bloke, asked him if he would sign my 76 final programme next time I was in. Sat with him a few times having a cup of tea with him.

First time on Kippax; having watched all previous games in Platt Lane. On me dad’s shoulders v Derby. 4-3 win. That 4th goal took an eternity. Oh what memories

Mad to see Colin Bell playing in that game only 6 months after the injury. When he got injured again, was it a further ACL injury? 18 months until the Boxing Day return

Lakey too did his ACL in training before 91/92 I believe which set him back until 92/93

Was behind me in the queue at the City shop when I was in there with my youngest aged 11 about 5 years ago I think. Was talking to him in the queue, he was buying City shirts for a charity event that he supported every year. When I got outside he’d waited and asked if my son would like a picture with him against the stadium photo of his 1976 league cup winner, was really nice of him, top bloke, magical player

Got a crack on the head for insolence during PE once at school.
We were playing basketball and I was dribbling down the wing or whatever the side of the court is called. I was doing a running commentary “And it’s Dennis Tueart running towards the goal net”
Teacher (a Leeds fan) blows his whistle. Calls my whole name saying “Dennis Tueart does not play basketball”
Straight up I said “I’ll be Asa Hartford then Sir”. PE teacher comes up and Brian Glover style whacks the side of my head!

Not the Villa game where he exited on a stretcher? He played 1.5 games after that never really came back.

Bell had multiple injuries in 75 and was never the same after that, that injury also finished him in effect, but I didn't relaise he had come back from an ACL injury before that?
