Depeche Mode

I think that early 80's image has stuck with them in the UK. Musically though, once Vince Clarke left they moved on and left all that behind. They were pretty groundbreaking and always ahead of the game.
The new album takes a few listens. Soft touch/raw nerve and sooth my soul are classic DM

Bands like New Order got all the kudos but Depeche Mode were far better imo
I went to see them on the last tour and they laid a pretty big hint that they were done, I didnt even realise they had done a new album, that tells you how much coverage they get in the UK, Placebo very similar in that regard, sell out all over Europe, small venues back in the UK.

Anyway I am derailing a sad thread.

They sold out the London Stadium on the last tour. I think they had finally been recognised as genuine heavyweights and had gained a well deserved respect over here.

And what a belter it was! Slightly dampened when we came out to find out that the Borough Market terrorist incident had taken place the same night, Police everywhere when we finally made it back to our hotel. Had to get them to let us in as they had bolted the doors.

As said in previous posts, I've seen them since day one, Crocs nightclub in Rayleigh to the above gig via at least one concert of every tour in quite a few countries.
Will they continue? Fletch, although an integral part of the whole DM set up, didn't really contribute to the song writing or live playing, although that's probably a disservice as he was on stage and did press buttons! More of the organiser/ manager/ contract person.
Martin has been writing songs in the last few years, Dave has been doing his Soulsavers stuff, so there is scope to continue, it just depends if they are willing.

Still, I'll have my memories...and the vinyl!

Managed to fulfill a lifetimes ambition of seeing them in Germany, on the last tour. Did the Olympic stadium in Munich and got the Waldbuhne gig in Berlin. If they call it quits, that will have been their last ever gig.

I came to the Manchester concert, it was a great show.

The small venues comment was for Placebo though :)
