Derby Post Match

During the commentary shortly after Smalling had been sent off; Tyler listed the Utd players that had been sent off in Derby matches.

Macari, Alan Smith, Johnny Evans, The Ginger bastard, Ronaldo (twice), Keane etc

I can only think of Vinny in the cup tie for us - there must have been a couple of others ?

Redcrap thought the sending off changed the game...the inference was that Utd were on top until the sending off. Souness had to point out that after the initial 15 -20 mins when Utd were inthe game City were now well on top and De Gea had made a couple of saves to keep Utd in the game. Redcrap would not accept this and continued to argue like a spoilt child
...Souness just slapped him down like an irritant fly.

I thought from 15 mins to the sending off had to be one of their worst 25 mins since taggert went. They were absolute dross.

So, United are very nearly back? Reduced to ten men while dominating the game, the reds were undaunted and staged a valiant and stirring fightback which came within a whisker of snatching a result? This is undoubtedly the load of cobblers which will be peddled on MotD tonight and in the papers tomorrow. I saw it rather differently, as did most of those not swept along by the frenzy of football fantasy emanating from the dream makers of Old Trafford, and the Florida noodle merchants.

United were never the better team. For the first 25 minutes they saw a lot of the ball but did little with it. They were ripped to shreds three times and saved from catastrophe by the admittedly excellent De Gea on all three occasions. Smalling, a man well versed in cock ups of scale in derbies, must be a strong candidate for the most stupid CB in the PL. Faced with an afternoon of trying to measure up to keeping Sergio off the scoresheet, he decides it's a good idea to stop Joe clearing quickly to set an attack in motion - yellow card with only an hour to behave against a 100+ goal a season attack. In fact only about 5 minutes before he flattens Milner who was in the process of fleecing him. Then there were ten.

The ten didn't defend valiantly at all. Candy floss head kicked Sergio's feet from under him in the area and then repeated last season's never to be forgotten contribution to the derby: "gob an Argie" - Sergio this time rather than Pablo. Then Blind took a hacking kick between Ya Ya's legs, but lived up to his name by missing any of the three spheres he could have connected with, and felled Ya Ya with a hack to the upper thigh. I've been told the Sky pundits thought the ref wasn't in the right place to see either, so no penalty was given. Not that it's the ref's job to be in the right place. Or that he has a linesman who can help him out.

So to the second half, and a period where City played well, got a superb goal and dished out a lesson until the last quarter of an hour. What happened then had little to do with United. They got some possession, but not because of their greater passion, their "heart" or their incomparable talent. No, City simply started to give the ball away and looked as bad as at any time during the "crisis". Yet what did this translat into? One pathetic nose at goal by the tallest man on the pitch and one shot which brought Joe Hart's only real save of the day, the only shot on target I can remember him having to deal with! And what could City do in the face of this red tide? Well Navas hit the post, Ya Ya was a whisker away with a shot after he had opened up the space with a superb flick and then he planted a header inches over he bar.

Yes, United can take real pride from their display, knowing their young team of academy products held City to a single goal compared to the hammerings of recent seasons.

Did Corradi, or have I imagined that?

Michael Ball certainly should have been...!

So glad we won today, was nervous before going to the game and wasn't enjoying seeing the scum control possession so easily for the first 15 minutes, but then we seemed to kick into gear and created 2 great chances in quick succession, so felt more relaxed and believed the "true" city had begun to return.

Overall the ref (Oliver) was man of the match for the scum, any normal ref would have given us at least one of the two penalty shouts in the first half and how the f*ck he didn't award a penalty when Sergio was hacked down in the second half, I'll never know. So overall we should have won the game by 3-4 goals in the end.

Yeah, we played badly in the last 15 minutes, following some of the strange subs made by Pelligrini, but we held on and won, so that's all that maters for me.

Hopefully we will kick on from here and look back on this part of the season as our "trough" period, when we win the title in April/May 2015!

Got back from the match then read the early pages of this thread and had to go back and watch the game on telly as some people seem to have seen a different game. I thought it was a huge step up on our recent performances and a well-deserved win. There were flashes of the old City around the box and the players that have been most criticised, i.e. Clichy, Fernando and Yaya all really stepped up to the plate.

We were never going to go from crap to great in one game. It is a question of cranking it up over a series of games and I think we took a huge step today. The only, slight, criticism would be that I'd like to see more from Jovetic but he couldn't be faulted for effort and I think he'll do better.

As regards the substitutions, Aguero and Jovetic are two of our most injury prone players. I do wonder if medical advice is involved there somewhere as it is beginning to be a pattern.

A good day.

Good result against a poor team. with 12 men (Oliver was criminal).
We still have huge problems in midfield though. For a successful season, YaYa must be pushed forward and relieved of all defensive responsibilities.
As to Pellegrini's substitutions - Unless Milner had a knock then CRIMINAL is the word to use. To take Milner (everyone's MOTM near me except for children) off just gifted the midfield to Utd on a stick.

I thought Milner was possibly our best player - did he have a knock or was it just another stupid substitution decision ?

I thought this was resolute! Had the boot been on the other foot, those fifteen minutes would have gone down in tomorrow's RagMeedya as resilient defence, gritty determination, just what champions are made of!!
