Derek

Re: Derek

Think Gervais is brilliant, even back to the old XFM shows with him Merchant and eventually Pilkington, they're just naturally funny. Office and Extras were superb and Life's too Short had it's moments.
Think Derek is coming at things from a slightly different angle and like some have already stated I think a lot of people expected it to be some sort of laugh out loud comedy all the way through, which it really isn't intended to be. There are some funny scenes but it also touches on a lot of emotive and serious issues too. Not sure about Gervais' acting in particular, but he certainly isn't meaning it to be a pisstake.
I like it so far, certainly more enjoyable and thought provoking than some of the shit being broadcast at the moment.

7.5/10

I like it, humour mixed with a poignant message in tonights episode.
Let's be fair though, The Office is incomparable to any comedy - this is no different.
Agreed. I think some of the critics are probably hiding away after what they said about the programme after they heard Gervais was going to play a bloke with 'difficulties'. I think as well as comedy he's making some good points about the care of our elderly - last week's episode was particularly good at that.

Re: Derek

It's OK but you can spot the social comment a mile off and it verges on the mawkish.

Also, like 99% of comedies since The Office, which was perfect, the whole documentary angle seems done to death and just a really lazy way of writing. Life's Too Short also suffered from this. It's like the writers can't be arsed thinking of a way to tell the story so instead the characters just talk directly to the viewer.

It's better than the shite they peddle on BBC3 but I'll probably leave the limited edition box set of this one.

Good again tonight. I particular liked the writing on the crabs - very good.

I think I must be a week behind,I am watching on a Tuesday.

A mate put me onto this. He has an autistic son and "Derek" is very recognizable to him.
A very good program in my opinion, funny in parts and the daughter in last nights (last weeks) episode is not too far from a number of people I know.

Re: Derek

It seems to be the same thing every episode, i wonder which relative of one of the old people will be a twat next week...
