Devante Cole: "City don't care about English kids"

He has the young English lad mentality.

I can't speak to Barker or his attitude as I don't know him - but in general one of the reasons we don't produce better footballers in England is because the mentality of English lads as soon as they've got a few quid in their pockets.

Perhaps it's just me but if I was a young footballer trying to make it at Manchester City I would not be lauding it up at Hideout Festival, Parklife and Ibiza hotspots which are known for drug usage. I am not for one moment saying that usage is the problem, however you can see why the club would rather he is not surrounding himself with those who perhaps are.

It's definitely an attitude problem with Barker. He has the young English lad mentality.

Once again mate, that's a very strong implication. You don't say it, but its nearly implied. The foreign lads go to these things too. That doesn't make him, or them, bad eggs at all. If you have factual evidence its an attitude problem, other than 'he went to a music festival' then fair enough. Based on his application in games there is absolutely no evidence that he doesn't take it seriously.

I imagine Pellegrini takes more interest in how they act in training with the first team than how they play for the reserves when deciding how ready they are, and that's something we don't see. Barker was brilliant for the EDS in the first half of last year, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's been brilliant when given the chance to train with the first team. He did himself no favours with the pretty meek display when given a start in the mid season friendly in AD, whereas Manu Garcia took the opportunity with both hands in the summer and showed no fear at all to play his natural game. That difference in mentality could easily be the reason Garcia is more favoured by Pellegrini, as it doesn't matter how much ability you have if you don't play your natural game.

That's the reason I'm a bit surprised that Barker hasn't been sent out on loan to let him get the confidence to play first team football, as he does look a bit more of a confidence player than some of the others. Others may see it differently, but he does seem to me to be a little less sure of himself than some of the others and only plays at his best when he's full of confidence. A good loan would do him the world of good imo, whereas players like Kelechi and Garcia look like they've got the self belief to go straight into the team.

Either way, it's got fuck all to do with nationality.

thats a big assumption.... the foreign players go out to these places swell. it doesn't mean they all do drugs and get smashed. He definitly deserves a chance as he's one of the best young talents we have and has more than applied himself in the games I've seen him.

What am I assuming and implying?

Does he go to raves which have heavy drug usage? Yes he does. Will he therefore be surrounded by heavy drug usage? Yes he will. Would it be seen in good light for a footballer to be seen around people who are gurning their tits off or ketty to fuck? Not particularly, no.

Absolutely no drugs in the private members clubs which most of the senior players hang about in. None at all.

Absolutely ridiculous.

how do you know the people he's with do that though ? if i or you went to a club and there were other people doing drugs, it doesn't mean we will take them. I've actually met barker in ark nightclub at the end of last season, the whole youth team were there pretty much, does that mean they were all doing drugs and sniffing cocaine. People do drugs everywhere along as barkers not doing it, it doesn't matter.pretty much the whole first team go in clubs in manchester there not all on drugs, just having a good time like every other young lad in there.

btw most clubs I've been in recently you will never see anyone openly doing drugs and a large percentage of young people dont take drugs

It is often an image thing but even there i'm stuggling to see how you can criticise any current city player for even having the perceived fondness for a bit of a party. Sterling likes a pipe every now and then and he is a bit of a character, Zuculini had too much fun on loan in spain (acording to some) but other than that it must be the most professional squad we have ever had.
