Devante Cole: "City don't care about English kids"

We gave him quite a few chances to make it at City, he was nurtured and sent out on loan. He just wasn't good enough at this level. He'll have a similar career to Bradley Wright Phillips I imagine. He is quick and good on the ball but he's just not good enough at the moment and we've plenty better at our academy.

It's funny how many plaudits we get from those that are successful at City and how slated we are by those that flop or go elsewhere. It's the same with the first team. You can look at our u16s win from the other day and see how many local lads are in that side.

We know how journalists twist what Pellegrini says in his weekly meeting with the press and this might justbe another example so lets not condemn a young lad

What I would say to Cole is, City couldnt and shouldnt care where you come from England, Timbuctu or beyond, its all and only about whether you have the right physical and mental attitudes to be one of the best players in the world, if you are you can make it at City if not you wont.

That is the standard to which all players have to aspire. The change since 2008 has been huge and many will not make it but they may be good enough to make a living at football. Rather than moan about not being picked to play, for one of the best sides in the world, they should be grateful to the club in developing them into being the best player they could have ever been

"Last Christmas I turned down a contract offer at City and told them I wanted to leave in the summer. That’s when it all got a bit difficult and they tried to sell me behind my back for a fee."

is this guy for real? what did he expect city to do, let him swan off to what ever club he fancied with out receiving a fee?

Anyone who goes into an academy should treat it for what it is. An opportunity to make it in the game not at the club they train with.

Obviously if you are good enough then there is a chance you will make it. However, when you consider how many lads are in the academy, you'll be lucky if 5% become a first team regular at all clubs.

Being at an academy of a top club is almost like being in the top tier football for a young lad. Not only will they receive a top education and coaching, but they will also get fast tracked to decent loan moves. If you don't make it at City or Arsenal then there is a high chance another club will come in for you. However, if you don't make the grade at someone like Bradford then where does that leave the player?

Plenty of young lads have not made the grade at us but now have decent careers in football and earn a lot of money. The likes on Onouha, Richards, Bradley Wright-Phillips, Mee, Trippier and Ireland. We also have a few lads such as Cole who are not in the Championship.

He should thank himself lucky that he had the chance with us and not have a chip on his shoulder.

'Then they got their money and everything changed straight away. They started buying foreign boys for the academy and all the English lads got pushed to one side. As you got older, you realised you wouldn’t get a chance of progressing no matter what you did.

‘Some players were picked regardless of form because they’d had millions of pounds spent on them. It wasn’t fair on the ones who’d come through the ranks.’

Bit hard to take that out of context. It's just a bullshit story for the mutual benefit of the DM, the rags and the Cole's.
