Diabetes

Fairly young man here, 30.
Big bread eater. At leat 4 slices a day. What exactly am I doing to myself?
Also eat oats for breakfast?
Have you been diagnosed with Type 1 or 2?

I had blood test a couple of years back and nothing showed up. I was about 56-57 then. Seems like mine came on in the past 6 months. Id been feeling shit since Xmas and after our last home game last season i felt dreadful. Thought id had a bad pint to be fair. Against my wishes my missus insisted I went to the quacks.
Glad I did now.

For me it was chest pains and falling asleep at the drop of a hat, like you I realised something was wrong on match day and struggled to walk from ASDA to the ground.

How you doing at the moment mate?

Bloods are to be taken this afternoon mate. I am just charging up my bluetooth earbud for my daily 3.5 mile lap and I feel great. Because I was insulin and tablet dependent it's taking longer to shift and am on a very very low carb diet after doing 7 weeks on a complete no carb diet, exercise being the key to pushing me towards wellness. It's no exaggeration to say that this thread has changed my life.

Going back to the post from @blue wang. I knew a guy from New Zealand many years back who referred to white bread as 'white death'. Thats our downfall but once you clear the 'addiction' it's quite easy to stay away from it. The odd piece now and then is ok but the trouble with a fresh cob is going back for another slice.

That's great news and I agree that a sedentary lifestyle is a no no. I still find it hard to fit in exercise but am walking as much as I can
I was at a northern soul night last week and clocked up 8000 steps dancing away!
Hahaha!

Brogues and baggy trousers ehh :)
Those Northern Soul dancers mustn't have any calories left in their body.

It will be type 2, type 1 is from birth

You can do it @karen7 .

Everyone has their weaknesses. I never thought I'd give up bread but as I've said before, I'd rather have my toes than a butty!
Are you following a specific diet?

This has to be done on YOUR terms Karen, the less pressure you put on yourself the better you will do IMO. There's nothing daft about liking chocolate either :)

I wish I'd stopped carrying on my lifestyle when I was told I had type 2 some 20 years ago. I've gone from diet only to tablets, and now have a small jab of insulin as well - currently 8 units per day, down from 14 in May. Hopefully, this will be a short term measure according to my consultant.

Since May, I've lost almost 3 stones, and my glucose level is now around 6.0, which they're happy with. I've just started throwing out my old clothes, as they now fit me like a tent, and my waist size has dropped by 4 inches.

The bit in bold is deliberate. I lost my left big toe in July due to a foot ulcer that wouldn't heal, and the one next to it 2 weeks ago. When I get permission from the doctor/podiatrist, I can go back to the gym to try and get fit again, but not at the moment. I'm going to the match on Saturday, and the next 3 as well, the first one since Everton, but I'll take it slowly.
My lifestyle and eating habits haven't changed much - I'm now a lot more sensible in my choices, but I'm still going for a pint tonight - my once a week treat!

Bloody hell mate i hope I didn't offend you with my statement. However that's how I sold the diet and the lifestyle to myself. I was really unhappy with myself and down in the dumps. I couldn't have given a shit if I'd dropped dead there and then. I guess I was on the brink of depression. Being told I had type 2 and researching it pretty much scared me into doing something about it. I feel like I'm on a crusade now to pass on my little knowledge to fellow sufferers. Also in your case the doctors probably gave you the wrong advice on life style change. Even most these days don't recognise the true cause of this disease. Lucky for me my doc did. I've slipped off the Edge a few times but the main thing is to avoid white bread white rice pasta and spuds. It is hard at FIRST but just work around it. I've tried the cauliflower rice and it's awful so just try something else. Remember how we took the piss out of Gillian McKeith and her quinoa!
She was right and I might only have it occasionally but I enjoy it now. Especially with Cervice.takes on all the flavours.
@karen7 chocolate is my downfall but 2 big squares of 80%+ sorts me out. Just let it linger in your mouth.
I gave up drinking for 10 weeks to accellerate my diet and although I'm back on it I think I'll have to give up beer. Red wine and maybe vodka from now on.
