Diabetes

My wife is type 1 and I really don’t think she looks after herself, after losing her job last week in a way it will be a good thing her eating times the stuff she ate was absolutely shit. The exercise she got was at work basically, she had recently stated to get a lot of hypos I’m hoping now with not been a shift worker I can get her to do regular exercise but her diet is terrrible imho, anyone got any tips on the way I can encourage her to change as she just thinks I’m nagging but you hear the horror stories of people who don’t take it seriously.

Take her to the drs and get him to put it straight to her what will happen if she doesn't get control it,if you think straight talking works on her or
Challenge her to a month of eating right and you'll do it too, she'll lose weight then trust me she will keep going, women love losing weight

Good shout as there's a woman in that that had type 2 and she reversed it and lost a lot of weight.
@Blue Maverick
Do the diet together that way you eat the same and there's no temptation ( if your partner is eating 'normally' you'll be picking their chips etc!

Thanks for the advice , mine has been touchin 170 sometimes more or sometimes less, is this what they call border line or its higher than the border line?
If you are talking about blood sugar levels, you are a medical phenomenon.
Normal blood sugar is around 7 , say 4-8.
Anything higher than that and you are at risk of developing diabetes.
If you are over about 14 you will know about it and if over 20 you will be dangerously ill.
A reading of 170 is pure fantasy.

It's the American reading of mg/dl.
We use mmol/l

170 is about 9.4 it's like Fahrenheit and Celsius, there are two different ways to measure it.

@Gelsons Dad and his harsh but warranted advice brought me to where I am right now I'm on the road to full fitness blood sugars under control without any medication at all. I'm walking 3.5 miles a day every day and have loads of energy. After being on 2000mg of metformin and glimepiride with 3 insulin injections a day and now medication free I owe the shouty bugger a mention.
So anyone out there who wants to give it a serious go from a mid 50's ex fat bugger you've got nothing to lose. As an aside I was on prostate medication and that's gone too now.

;-)
There is nothing wrong with being shouty when you know you're right.
It's really easy to just go with the flow but as this thread proves, if you want to make the change you can. You've just got to want to do it enough.

Probably the best thread on blue moon this.

Ok here we go. Going to get serious and cut Carbs out. I`ve been told i`m now diabetic. Really dont want to start taking tablets I want to try with diet.

Bread is my achilles heal but my wife has done all the cooking since 1976 so basically it her fault 8-)

Every meal seems to be pasta, rice, or potato based so time to start cooking too.

Wish me luck and any advice would be welcome.

Go back and read this thread from the start. Pay attention to the posts from the only medical expert on here, drthingy. Watch the videos, read the studies and read crazyg's posts. (well done for posting). Then decide where you want to be in 6 months, 1 year, 10 years.
It's a choice with 2 possible outcomes in the end. You master it, or it masters you.

Gone 2 days without bread after reading this thread. Also 21 hours without a beer. Been tough.
