Yet there's something "different" now, and it saddens me because there seems to be so many divides drawn, and woe betide anyone who crosses.
Yet isn't that what people are really like? Complex, interesting, multi faceted and HUMAN

Yup. It’s not only on social media either, it’s forced the more traditional media to be more entrenched too. You don’t get the difference in opinion in editorial sections anywhere near as much nowadays.

I can’t read a newspaper anymore and watching the news on tv is becoming a struggle, such is the bias in show dependant on what it is you are watching.
