Did City bid for Young?

Ashley Young is being very underrated on these boards. That said, there are several players I'd much prefer.

But to call him crap/average is over the top, he's the third or fourth highest assister in the entire league in the last five years or so. Averages about 13 assists per season and about 9 goals, he'll be useful to United's style with two wingers and hard working forwards like Rooney and Hernandez.
He IS a good player, but isn't really a title challenging player, I mean, hed struggle to get on our bench ahead of AJ...

The scum have a habit of buying players like that (eg Valencia, Park, Young...) teach them to cheat and HEY PRESTO!

I'd accept us buying him when we had Hughes, as players like Sanchez were out of our reach and we were buying players like Bellamy, SWP, Lescott, Bridge etc... But the only reason I'd have him at the club now is because it would be nice to see 'YOUNG' on the back of that new red & black kit again :D

Also, he's not exactly going to be the next giggs, I mean, he's 26/27 and in his prime...if he was 23 or under I could understand it if we had any intrest...

Peter Spencer MEN Sports Editor is adamant we tried to sign him

Young is a good, English player and IF we hadn't already got Milner and AJ I suspect we'd have been 'in' for him. I think he's better than either of those - but not as good as Sanchez. Suggesting he isnt very good is arrant nonsence and those saying so are poor judges of ability.

It's very unlikely we actually made a bid for him, as it would have negated our reasons to get Sanchez, but highly likely we made an enquiry to put a deal on the back burner pending any rebuttle from Sanchez deal.

Also, I believe Young will have a better chance of 1st team football at Utd, simply because of the style they play, with proper wingers in their proper places. Rightly or wrongly, Mancini doesn't play that style (AJ played on the right, when he gets a chance).

Young will do well at Utd - but he wasnt for us.......................

Did we try and sign Young, we don't know. Do you believe that a sports journalist knew we were trying to sign Young and decided not to publish it? No chance.

I believe we were also in for O'hara, who chose to go to wolves instead.
We were also in for brad friedel, but sadly he rejected champions league football, due to the pull of white heart lane.

It is also common knowledge that we were heavily linked with, seb larsson, who also chose to turn us down for the pull of no european footie with sunderland, which was something we just couldn't offer.

For the record, the club moved to appoint star tea lady elsie clempam, a veteran of 40 seasons at arsenal, when her husband stan passed away and she has moved to beswick to live with her spinster daughter gertrude.

Sadly elsie has opted to make brews at droylsden, as they seemed that little bit more of an attractive option.

I agree. Great crosser of the ball if not the best crosser of the ball in the Premiership - however odd that Utd signed him seeing as they don't have a traditional target man centre-forward, and Nani and Valencia are very good crossers as well.

Young and Dzeko would have been a devastating partnership. It's a transfer that I don't think makes much sense from Utd's point of view - would their starting 11 be any stronger - but would have made more sense for City.
