Our Academy squads seem to be filled with excellent local lads, though.
OK, I know that excellence at Academy level does not always translate to excellence at first-team or international level, but the signs are encouraging.

If we were to somehow sign Baines for instance, as an English player who would reasonably be expected to hold a starting position in City's line-up - then who would Everton replace him with?
If there are not similarly gifted English players to play that position then it will be foreigner. It would simply be a zero sum gain. The problem isn't City not fielding enough English players; the problem is the paucity of English talent available in the league...

Not in the slightest. MCFC wasn't created to supply players to the England team. And England is pretty much a Southern club as far as I'm concerned, so fuck them.

I'm relatively new to city compared to most of you (only club I've ever supported though, wasn't into football particulary before) but the way some of you spoke about the likes of Michael Johnson makes me think you'd like us produce the best English talent to. Hopefully with our academy it will be the long term aim, I'm delighted to watch us beat teams 7-0 in the short term though ;)

Not really.
If they're not good enough to make the grade, then they don't deserve to play.
Hopefully in 10-15 years time well be bearing the fruit of the new academy, and there will be a number of English lads making the grade, hopefully even local Manc lads.
In the meantime, this is our reality. But due to the level we're now accustomed to, it'll be harder than ever for a young player to make the grade, and even then young players from abroad will have an advantage over the English lads due to the better standard of coaching they receive as children. If we're going to hoover up other academies talents too, then this is something we'll have to look at carefully if we're to really produce English players capable of succeeding in a side as competitive as ours now is.

Losing bothers me a lot more than how many Englishmen are in the starting 11.
It didn't cross my mind.
What does cross my mind is that after all the years of football academies which have been around for getting on for 20 years or so now, just how few English players of any quality make the grade these days.
Maybe we should go back to the days of kicking a tennis ball around a cobbled street with 30 a side teams, but after all the money that has been pumped into training our youngsters, something is wrong somewhere.
