Did Mancini put his own CV ahead of City's interests?

Does he need to?

Besides i think anyone who did any sort of research into Mancini (rather than just skimming his trophy wins) when considering employing him would realise what the priorities were for us at the time, and that whilst a trophy would be a welcome bonus, the key ojective for the future of the club was Champions League qualification.

Not sure about that. Managers and players want trophies, and he has an enormous ego.
Oh so you mean personal gratification over practical purposes?

I don't know him so can't comment on that. But if he was putting his career first rather than the club, then achieving your goal and still being got rid of i reckon would be an easier sell to prospective employers than getting a shiny cup but ultimately failing in the job you wer taken on for.

I can see the thinking behind that, but in all honesty I think he looked at the two teams and Liverpool's injury list and thought ''yeah, we can beat them without De Jong and Silva'' and looking at how we lined up we could have done. I think Mancini would rather get 4th than the FA Cup because he will be under huge pressure to deliver Champions League football, with the money we have spent that expectation comes from everyone connected with football.

In terms of the Liverpool game, unfortunately no matter what team you pick, they have to put in a performance and ours didn't. We had an off day, Liverpool wanted it and we didn't. Jay Spearing, Lucas, Flannigan their right back etc, we had better players out there, but ours weren't up to that task on the day. Hopefully on Saturday we'll get the kind of performance worthy of a semi final against our biggest rivals, if the players can't motivate themselves for that, they don't deserve to be at our club.

You're attempts at reading between the lines are as laughable as the "media is anti-City" paranoia.

Isn't it also in City's interests to win a cup? He played the team on Monday knowing that a defeat would be a blow but we'd still have an advantage and 6 games to make up for it, if we lose on Saturday we won't a chance to make up for it as we'll be out

His CV at present i would imagine would be good enough to land him a top job in Italy so i'm not sure why he'd be so intent on wanting to improve us CV with a cup win and blowing a chance to put a bigger gap between us and Spurs in the league.

Personally i think he thought that the team he played was good enough to get a result, be it a draw or a win but it wasn't. It was just one of those things, he got it badly wrong and he knows it, it happens

Can't see anyone else laughing pal
You won't do on the end of a keyboard.

Speaking with a couple of Rag season ticket holders today about the dippers game and this theory was what they initiated.
I am not sure myself,i probbably think he was trying to be too clever but, whatever Mancini's reasoning,it has backfired enormously on him and made us a laughing stock.

The offshoot being, they think Saturday will be a walkover.....

Can we for once try to keep the thread on track please. Ignore the Attack Dogs. The thread's not about me, it's about Mancini.

I'm not stating this as gospel, but as i've had the same conversation with a couple of blues, I thought it worthy of debate on here.

I don't believe anyone can credibly argue that the ommision of Silva and De Jong from the Liverpool game was for footballing reasons. They had to be being protected for the semi final game this weekend. But it has been stated on numerous occasions that City's first priority is the league, and a place in the top 4. Again, I don't think it can be argued that that is the case either.

So did Mancini leave them out because to him personally the cup is more important because he is leaving in the summer? An FA Cup victory is surely a badge on his CV which would stand up more than a 4th place finish in years to come.

Did he take a risk which backfired for his own selfish reasons?

Again, just to make absolutely clear, I'm not saying he did, I'm just asking a question....

no, not for me. he may have dropped bollock after bollock this season but he has done it with honesty.
the man is a gent and i do believe he wants to win everything.

(well except the carling cup)

I don't think he had any confidence in us to gain a result at Anfield irrespective of the team he fielded so he rested/protected a few of the "big guns". That being the case though, I don't know why he didn't also choose to rest/protect two of our 4 most important players, Tevez and Kompany. As it was, he fielded a team that was never going to get a result and it looks like we've lost our top goalscorer too.
