Did we really get it wrong?

Well said PB. This has unfortunately become the manager pissing contest that certain people have been waiting for.

And some of these people have the audacity to moan when the media pick up on total unnecessary bull, and use it as an opportunity to take the shine off our great club. Well, they don't need to complain anymore, as they've manged to do that themselves.
The thing that's a bit sickly is people trying to play it down as if it's nothing just to justify their stance that Pellegrini is some sort of messiah. He and his management team should know the ins and outs of this without a second thought, it was a proper fuck up no matter what anyone says and they look stupid over this individual saga.

However, it doesn't take anything away from the performance and result, not a thing. I don't understand how people can't differentiate the two things. For twenty minutes we looked like the Year 9s had walked into the Year11s playground at dinnertime and were going to get a hiding, then James Milner turned up! What a performance after that. But away from the perfoamance that was a fucking proper stupid thing to get mixed up.

Believe it or not there are people out there who don't get wrapped up in all this agenda nonsense. The manager and the team got things spot on. This isn't a Mancini/Pellers issue. Nobody's giving Pellers a guard of honour, simply congratulating him and the team on their achievement. Surely that's better for club morale than burrowing to find a 'potential' stick to beat them with?

crystal_mais either has a crystal ball or is on crsytal meth to be "sure" of that stat!

Maybe it's just wishfull thinking on his part that the majority of us are not spineless, snivelling bitches.
Ooh strong words!

Ah yes, spineless snivelling bitches for being open enough to admit it was a fuck up without having to worry what everyone thinks about it. It was a fuck up, it does matter to a certain extent. But i'm still happy we're through, i'm still happy we came back and won last night, and i will get on with my life the same as if it never happened. but that doesn't mean it shouldnt be talked about and criticism be dished out. It's justified.

Please lock this thread. If it gets bigger than the post match it will confirm this place is just full of miserable ***** who only support City because they want something to moan about. I'd rather it still just be a lingering possibility than proven beyond doubt.

At the end of the day,MP has taken us to a level that others have tried and failed.From what we hear that was his priority from the hierarchy and he`s delivered it with 3 CL away wins.
If it was an error so what,its done,gone,passed us by.Time to move forward and concentrate on Saturdays game.Unfortunately some can`t see the woods for the trees and the bigger picture.
This is, of course, spot on. However I can see the twigs for the branches, even, but it's not even 24hrs after the event so it's stil a talking point, it was shit as an individual thing - doesn't take the shine off anyting else though, just that that individual thing was shit. I don't see how people aren't able to dish out criticism as well as being happy about everything else. It's weird!

No mate, for bleating on about it like an old washerwoman.
I take it you'r putting yourself in the 5% bracket then.

I don't think it matters. Everyone is a grown up at the club and they should all be able to take on criticism for individual things. The fans will always talk about major talking points and especially within the first 24hrs of it happening. I don't think any less of anyone in the management team for it, just that it was a mistake that shouldn't have been. I'm not going to play it down just because i wouldn't want to upset anyone or rock the Kumbaya boat - it was daft as fuck no matter how you paint it. But i'm still a happy City fan and moral will not (and shouldn't be) diminished at all from it.

I am probably on a par with Pigeonho when it comes to not taking any notice of this "agenda" many get their nickers in a twist over too.

can anyone tell me how much extra cash those three points mean to the club?
It's £1m per win at this stage. Doesn't matter whether we top the group or cone second. There's no direct financial consequence either way.

There's also 2 coefficient points for a group stage win and we got 2 we couldn't have expected to get last night. We' re in 17th place in the rankings currently, a fraction behind PSG. If the rags miss out on CL that's Pot 2. There are more points to be won and we could do with Marseille & Dortmund drawing tonight as they're both not far behind us. You need 21 points per season minimum over 5 seasons to get into pot 1 and we've got 21 for the first time.

I'm in no bracket. As i've said i'm grown up enough to say it's a fuck up no matter how anyone paints it, whilst being able to differentiate it from all other things going on of which i'm really happy about. I don't feel like i have to play it down just because i know a few people don't want to give or admit any criticism towards the new manager.

If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches,

the following criteria are applied to determine the rankings (in descending
order):
a) higher number of points obtained in the group matches played among the
teams in question;
b) superior goal difference from the group matches played among the teams
in question;
c) higher number of goals scored in the group matches played among the
teams in question;
d) higher number of goals scored away from home in the group matches
played among the teams in question;
e) if, after having applied criteria a) to d), two teams still have an equal
ranking, criteria a) to d) are reapplied exclusively to the matches between
the two teams in question to determine their final rankings. If this
procedure does not lead to a decision, criteria f) to h) apply;
f) superior goal difference from all group matches played;
g) higher number of goals scored from all group matches played;
h) higher number of coefficient points accumulated by the club in question,
as well as its association, over the previous five seasons (see
paragraph 9.02).
7.07 The eight group-winners and eight runners-up of the group stage qualify for
the round of 16. The clubs that finish this stage in third position in their group
move into the round of 32 of the current UEFA Europa League. The clubs that
finish this stage in fourth position in their group are eliminated.
7.08 The four best third-ranked teams are seeded for the UEFA Europa League
round of 32. This ranking is determined in accordance with the following
criteria (in descending order):
a) higher number of points obtained in the group matches
b) superior goal difference
c) higher number of goals scored
d) higher number of away goals scored
e) higher number of wins
f) higher number of away wins
g) higher number of coefficient points accumulated by the club in question,
as well as its association, over the previous five seasons (see
paragraph 9.02).

couldnt care less about if we messed up or not (we didnt mess up as it doesnt really matter as anyone we get in the next round is going to be hard to beat)

we beat the champs of europe in their own back yard, altered our style of play to do so and after the first 15 minutes defended well (and reasonably comfortably)

Im just hoping this provides MP with the insurance that having a tighter defense doesnt mean we have to sacrifice our attacking potential.....

first or second in the group is irrelevant....if you want to win things int he end you are going to have to play and beat the best...

Read 'b' more closely.
