Did we really get it wrong?

It was a fantastic win after being two goals down against a team many people consider the best in the world, with mainly a second string team!

All the whining we should have gone for the other goal is bollocks,we were trying for another goal and even if we had thrown Aguero on it didn't guarantee we would get it.

At this stage in the teams mental strength and progress i think a win against Bayern will be better for them, rather than going all out to win the game and group and getting hit on the break and drawing the game.

Whatever happens we have to play and beat the best to win the trophy and over two legs with a fully fit squad i would give us a fair chance of doing that.The thing that needles me is not the going gung ho to try and get the extra goal in Munich,but the tactics that cost us the first leg.Hopefully for Pellegrini the penny has finally dropped that against the better teams and especially away from home we need the extra body in midfield.

Nope. We can't stop the media on this one. But we don't have to insult each others' intelligence by insisting that last night's error was inconsequential.

I'm sure 95% of City fans couldn't give a toss
crystal_mais either has a crystal ball or is on crsytal meth to be "sure" of that stat!

I happen to agree with him, I am smelling a strong whiff about some posters in this thread, I can't beleive that any genuine City fan has batted an eyelid about this

That is true.

first or second in the group is irrelevant....
That is not correct. You don't want to be facing the best any earlier than you have to. Granted, there are not many mugs left in the competition now, but there are easier games available to the group winners rather than the runners up. Also, don't the group winners get to play the away leg first in the first knockout stage?

I can. We have some proper miserable bastids supporting this club who NEED something to complain about even after a legendary win like last night's.

I wonder how many of them even expected a draw last night, but much like the gutter press they turn it into a "we should've scored more".

I mean, even if Pellegrini was ignorant to the fact, we had the chance to score the 4th and Neuer made a great save with his trailing leg. Bringing on Aguero would have guaranteed nothing.

Yes they do. But can we be sure our club knows this? Can we be sure they know the date of our away leg is likely to be a few days before the League Cup final? Is it important to know these things? Is it important to know the rules of the competitions you play in? Bloody sure it is.

We sent on a striker Negredo for Silva after 73 minutes - we were going for more goals.

Maybe we could have been more positive in the last few minutes, but we don't know what the effect would have been, and it could have backfired.

This is not an Alan Ball situation because we got relegated under Ball, and in this case we won and were trying to core for more for all but the last few moments as the Negredo sub prove.

Taking nothing away from the result, it was about as good as we can achieve. Beating the European champions with their 1st side and our 2nd team, is pretty much as good as it gets.

However I find it quite shambolic that nobody knew. The media, the commentators did.

If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches,

the following criteria are applied to determine the rankings (in descending
order):
a) higher number of points obtained in the group matches played among the
teams in question;
b) superior goal difference from the group matches played among the teams
in question;

c) higher number of goals scored in the group matches played among the
teams in question;
d) higher number of goals scored away from home in the group matches
played among the teams in question;
e) if, after having applied criteria a) to d), two teams still have an equal
ranking, criteria a) to d) are reapplied exclusively to the matches between
the two teams in question to determine their final rankings. If this
procedure does not lead to a decision, criteria f) to h) apply;
f) superior goal difference from all group matches played;
g) higher number of goals scored from all group matches played;
h) higher number of coefficient points accumulated by the club in question,
as well as its association, over the previous five seasons (see
paragraph 9.02).
7.07 The eight group-winners and eight runners-up of the group stage qualify for
the round of 16. The clubs that finish this stage in third position in their group
move into the round of 32 of the current UEFA Europa League. The clubs that
finish this stage in fourth position in their group are eliminated.
7.08 The four best third-ranked teams are seeded for the UEFA Europa League
round of 32. This ranking is determined in accordance with the following
criteria (in descending order):
a) higher number of points obtained in the group matches
b) superior goal difference
c) higher number of goals scored
d) higher number of away goals scored
e) higher number of wins
f) higher number of away wins
g) higher number of coefficient points accumulated by the club in question,
as well as its association, over the previous five seasons (see
paragraph 9.02).

The rules from their website.

Well surely "b" is the next criteria ?? They had +12 and we had +8 !!
Read 'b' more closely.
More specifically; ''b) superior goal difference from the group matches played among the teams
in question;

The GD figures quoted above are from all the group matches, not the head to head games.

You would expect a thread like this to emerge the afternoon or evening the day after the victory, not 5 mins after the final whistle.

Still, some posters absolutely desperate to put a knife in Pelli
