Did we really get it wrong?

Fuckin brilliant. 24 hours of getting slagged off by Sky for miscalculating and yet at 10 tonight on SSN they still have CSKA as being third in our group. YCNMiU
Amateurish to say the least

Because going for a fourth goal and losing confidence have fuck all to do with each other.
I think you mean 'going all out' for a fourth goal, which is what you would have preferred. We never went into defensive mode, hence Negredo's chance late on. Knowing the exact goals required It would still have been a gamble, simple as. Some fans would have taken that gamble, some wouldn't. Nobody knows the outcome - that's all there is to it. I was happy to stick rather than twist.

If only every decision could be based on hind sight.
Whether Pellegrini or anyone else knew 2-4 would be enough it still doesn't mean that we would have scored that 4th goal.
IMHO I think the fact that we beat BM on their own patch is a powerful message in it's own right.

Before the game how many City fans really thought we could win, even more so when the starting 11 were announced. Most City fans would have been ecstatic with a draw!

The bigger game ( we'd already qualified for the next round anyway) is this week-ends game against the Arse.
Time for another powerful message !

I tend to think that if we'd gone for it we'd have conceded a 3rd. But going for it might have caught Bayern in two minds. Their natural inclination would have been to chase the equaliser. But, assuming they understood the rules, they would have known that equalising wouldn't have been a big deal but conceding a 4th would have cost them first place. A national emergency if they don't win the group. If we'd applied pressure it might have left them falling between two stools. They might have got the jitters. As it was, it was fairly obvious that we were happy with 2-3, were happy to kill time.

I don't understand why people are getting so much stick for making what are very good points about what was essentially a major fuck up last night. I understand the point of view of wanting to back the manager in the face of a Sky Sports and media backlash who are clearly trying to embarrass the club after an unbelievable victory. However, on here we should be able to speak our minds and last night we made an error. It's not all on Pellegrini, but he holds the responsibility.

The other day Didsbury Dave said any of our fans that want Real Madrid or Barcelona in the next round were not wanting the best for the club. Well the error last night has made that a possibility. I'm not particularly interested in 'well we could have got Juventus or Dortmund' because in my eyes there is a very clear difference in the quality of the teams that have won the group and those finishing second and I like the probabilities of getting an easier draw if we'd topped the group.

I'm not a wum, I'm not a rag, I'm not ungrateful or spoilt. I'm not anti-Pellegrini or yearning for Mancini. I didn't prefer it when we were playing York away. But I am slightly pissed off that the club is capable of making an error that they shouldn't have. I couldn't believe the way we were playing those last 20 minutes. A famous victory seemed more important than risking a draw and going for the bigger picture. Joe Hart and a few others were time wasting! It was akin to Alan Ball v Liverpool without quite the same consequences. Now we know it's because the club didn't know, it's not good.

no, you're not any of those things. You are, I suspect, too intellectually advanced for most on this thread.

your post is spot-on, but is drowned out by the 'grow some balls and stop trying to weasel an easier draw' crowd.

Your insulting my intelligence based on a differing opinion.
Ahh you are a funny fella, logic and reasoning are nor your strong suits but funny never the less.

Of course it was poor, and most reasonable people know that. The abuse heaped on those of us who have pointed out obvious shortcomings and what needs to be done to make sure it never happens again has been nothing short of disgraceful.
Did you ever realise your posting name is an anagram of 'laughably blames'?

Ian Cheeseman on GMR was saying City had to win by 3 clear goals ,lets get it right none of us thought we would score never mind win from going 2-0 down .if we had finished top we would still have to play the "big boys" later on let us enjoy the victory

Yeah it was a cock-up; but even if we had made a more adventurous sub we probably wouldn't have changed the outcome.
Hopefully we'll learn from it and before any similar situations someone will go over all possibilities of the potential scores.
Anyway still a fantastic result against the champions of Europe. On the positive side, we go on fearing no team. The next round see's us away in the second leg in a great city. That's my Christmas pressie sorted. Great times to be a Blue!

look at the potential opponents of the 4 English teams in the last 16, says it all.

I will say it one more time, it's extremely worrying that apparently none of the head staff or players knew 2-4 was good for a group win. Really, really poor.

A quick look at your post history tells me all I need to know, have you ever had anything positive to say about the club?
Do you have that reply on a cut and paste job? It's ironic you find me boring.
