Did we really get it wrong?

Just posted this on another thread but it bears repeating:

BBC Radio 5 live summariser Chris Waddle
"I think out of the four English teams, Manchester City have the best chance of winning the trophy. I think they'll get a lot of confidence from winning away at Bayern Munich last night."

Sits back and waits the abuse/furore/drama!!! :-)

Agreed it was a great win but that's not the question of the thread.

Answer this: what would Pellegrini have done if he could go back that Silva substitution?

I can only conclude that we would have seen Serg.

I'm not exactly Pellegrini's greatest fan but some of the City posters on here need to go and lie down for a bit.
It was simply a great win and a huge confidence boost - especially after we were 2-0 down after 15 mins..

Going all out for another against Bayern would probably resulted in a Bayern equaliser or worse.
It should also be noted that:
- We had two good opportunities after taking the lead. One a great save the other blasted over the bar.
- Bayern players took out our players 3 times while we were starting counter attacks. Not a single booking! In fact 1 (if not 2) second yellow cards should have been brandished. Indeed to cap it all Fernandiniho was yellow carded for an offence similar to the ones Bayern Munich got away with.

There's one mod in England who's pissed off (rather than pissed up) with all this fucking shit .

If we'd cocked up and failed to qualify because we thought 3-2 was enough then people would be entitled to ask very pointed questions. But we didn't.

We beat the reigning European champions in their own stadium, which not many others have done. Unlike Chelsea, we took the game to them instead of sitting back, riding our luck and relying on penalties. We even beat them with only 3 players currently classed as first choice. This was a team that destroyed us at The Etihad and they were pretty well full strength.

We were still playing a 4-3-3 or 4-3-2-1 or whatever you want to call it at the final whistle. It wasn't like we'd taken all the forwards off. Milner, Negredo & Navas were still on the pitch. What if we'd taken Garcia or Navas off for Aguero and then conceded 2 like in the last 5 minutes in Madrid? No doubt the same Mancini cock-sucking brigade and others laying it on thick for not going for a 4th goal would have been even more unbearable in that case.

We've qualified for the last 16 for the first time in our history.
We've stood toe-to-toe with the mighty Bayern Munich and given them a bloody nose in front of their own crowd, in the way they did to us.
We've restored confidence and belief among the squad and most (but sadly not all) of the fans.
We've got 2 extra coefficient points that could easily be the difference between pots 2 & 3.

So we might have got a 4th goal. But we might not have. We might get a really difficult opponent in the last 16. But we may not depending on other results tonight. Whoever we get, we might or might not beat them but we'll be back for another crack next year.

I'm buzzing about last night, being in that draw on Friday and playing Arsenal on Saturday yet a group of sad fuckers or undercover rags on here are whinging about not going gung-ho for a 4th goal we might well not have got.

You know, sometimes I wish the Sheikh would piss off. Then we could get rid of the fans that behave like spoiled kids, with their exaggerated sense of entitlement, who whine that we didn't put 4 past Bayern at the Allianz. We could go back to the days of Gareth Taylor, Conlon, Brannan & Creaney. Then we'd really have something to fucking moan about.

The confidence bit is what I get from it all, and that's why I can not understand all the aggravation

Because going for a fourth goal and losing confidence have fuck all to do with each other. That post from PB is absolutely disgusting to be honest. The last paragraph is a disgrace from a mod when most people that are complaining about the mistake are not going over the top, they're not saying the manager should be sacked or anything even remotely like that. No-one is whining that we didn't put 4 past Bayern. We're moaning that we didn't try to.

It seems to me too many people want the glory of a victory when the bigger picture was to risk a draw for the chance to go all out and win the group. The thing that annoys me is that had Pellegrini known with ten or fifteen minutes to go that we needed one goal then he would have gone for it.

There is nothing, absolutely nothing wrong with people questioning what happened last night and I for one have had enough of being made to feel like an inferior supporter because of it.
It would have something to do with it if we'd have let one or two in and got stuffed 4-3 instead of winning 2-4 as a lot on here are presuming. I'd rather we faced Arsenal on the back of a win over the current champions than a stuffing, that's for sure

Why was it a cock up ? we very nearly scored a 4th without going going hell for leather

He can't answer that as he is not Pellegrini, unless he has had chance to ask him today which i doubt.

On what basis do you conclude this ?

The majority of the footballing world believe that if we chose to/knew the rules, we could have put the current European champions and arguably the best team in the world, firmly to the sword.

All the top seeded teams fear us in the next round and Arsenal (plus all other teams) will be shaking like a shitting dog knowing they are about to face a team that beat Bayern but with the additions of Clichy, Kompany, Yaya, Nasri, Negredo and Aguero.

I’m putting this down as the best mind game ever played 
