Diesel prices WTF!!

Slightly off topic here:

I need a new car.
-Prepared to spend 10k max
-Currently do 16k a year (vast majority is commuting between liverpool and manc)
- Looking at a second hand (less than 40k mileage) German car. Want some comfort/luxury and sick of Fords and french cars.
- Sport performance not a big factor but want somethng that looks ok.

Diesel or petrol?

I've heard many arguements from both sides, seams as if my annual mileage is on the border between the two but there is obviously facts to consider including higher prices of diesel motors, higher diese prices and maintenance issues with diesels such as turbos/filters etc.

cheers

Urban myth. You've been watching too much top gear circa 1980 -1998. Alfa sorted out the design and build quality over 10 years ago. They drafted in bods from BMW and Bentley and their record is up there with any german motor company. You can check that on the tinternet.

Your'e probably right, I'm just scepticle as a work colleague has problem after problem with his Giulietta.

If you've a family to taxi about, buy a VW Passat Blue Motion. It's a bit sluggish on acceleration but you'll be achieving 65-70 mpg on a run
Other options are BMW 318, VW Golf or even a Jag X type. All these will achieve 60+ mpg

No family here, just me. I'm considering the Mk 6 Golf 1.6 SE TDI or A3 (so will probs end up spending more than I originally planned).

I was in france last week-----Diesel over there is the equivalent of £1-15p per litre.[thats about £+ a gallon cheaper]-- Rip off Britain hey?

I paid £1.43 for Unleaded the other week on the Motorway ( amateur mistake) but even the places near me which used to be reasonable (£1.31ish) are now charging around £1.39... Fucking rip off especially with a car thats drinking petrol atm all my moneys going on fuel its a piss take

thats why i bit the bullet and sold my missus's bmw a few weeks ago.....we'd had it 8 years. She now drives a 1.4 ford fusion.
I moved to a 520d from 330ci for the same reason. Now when I'm off to see a client I tootle along at 56mph on the motorway behind a lorry and get 60mpg. Not bad considering it's a tank.

yeah, i've got the new 120d msport coupe (190bhp @ 125 emissions)....no matter how hard i drive it i cant get below 48mpg ;/
