I also have a question, a lot of talk about the need for a new stadium .. just how much of a pressing issue is this for prospective owners and for what reasons ? i understand anfield could do with a makeover but what's to say they cant just give it a spruce up and stay there for the foreseeable or is there some sort of legal reason etc .. thanks

Simply put..They earn no money at Anfield.

Lacks VIP-lodges, corporate hospitality etc etc...

Let's cut to the point, who's backing this Kenny and will they be richer than us?.

Thats completely missing the point. While your preoccupation with money continues we just want decent owners who do the right thing by the club and the fans.
Most LFC fans will tell you that.
Yes we had a bad season last year but that, we all know deep down, was a one off, the manager lost the plot a bit and made some strange decisions.
We have finished regularly in the top 4 for a few seasons with only a fraction of what you guys have or are spending.
Yes football is money orientated nowadays but it doesnt always mean success.

We just want a new ground with the ability to compete fairly, we do not want to go out and pay stupid amounts of money on players wages to have them at the club.
I hope Cancer and Aids are gone but Im wary of who may or may not be coming in. The proof is in the pudding and we will have to wait and see.
Some are saying this is a done deal already, we shall see.

It's woefully short of seats - 22,000 at £40 average is almost £900k per game of lost revenue. And once you are operating for 38,000 the additional costs are minimal.

We do lack the corporate stuff but they have just renovated all of the current boxes and have increased the price of them. Cunts.

So you're not interested in money, but you want someone to build you a new ground and presumably pay off your debts.

Just so you can "compete fairly".... who with? Everton? us? Blackpool?

It's always been about money, when you won things you spent more money than everyone else and if you're honest you'd love to do it again.

Don't take this the wrong way, I've got no problem with your club, but don't try to take the moral high ground, especially on our forum.

Na thats cool, no moral high ground, I didnt bring up the subject of money first mate.
The new ground will cost of course but it will finance itself over time also with sponsorship and ticket sales etc.
If we want to compete with the best we need a new ground, Anfield, sadly, is a state of a ground right now. It would of been done already if it weren't for the greedy tumours.

Like I say we just want decent owners. Id happily give up all the money involved if it meant having a well run club.

just a quick quote to digest

"He got rid of a lot of players early on and then he brought players in who were like-minded in their thinking about the game. If he didn't get what he wanted off them then they too would be away. He'd either leave them out of the team or get rid of them to other clubs."

does that sound so different from what we have been doing this previous season or two ? you know the policy we have implemented and been raped by certain elements of the media for and other clubs ?

by the by that comment refers to shanklys policy once he took over to rebuild liverpool and guide them to success ?

but if it happened, you wouldn't complain, right?

Sad truth is that money makes life more expensive, as does actually wanting to buy players. I think we've been less than wise on several occasions but agents and selling clubs tend to do their jobs very well. The moment they know you are in the market, the demands go through the roof.

I think we did ourselves a favour by only buying one, young, relatively inexpensive english player in January. Despite the hand-wringing over Yaya's supposed salary (even IF the 220k figure was true, it's made up of all sorts of things that aren't normally counted when the press report a salary), I reckon we've got fairly reasonable value this time. There was a time when we were quoted 150m for Villa and Silva, in that context 24 million for the younger of the two seems downright reasonable.

We have got a lot smarter, the negotiation process is now very canny. we have found a way to get an agreement with the selling club that ensures the final negotiations involve the agent getting squeezed from both sides. It also helps that we've been the only buying club this year. But still the wages are high and as long as another club is interested, the fees will never be exactly bargain bucket.

So in some respects, I share your ideal scenario of reasonable salaries and fees, for genuine, ambitious talent, but it is just that, an ideal, something your club would have to work very hard to realise. IF you ended up with a large amount of cash. I am personally pretty skeptical about KH's backing, promises like these are easy to make but whilst no backers have been revealed, let alone actually proved their financial commitment, it's hard to differentiate him from anyone else who has made these noises when buying a club in recent years. And, err, the whole thing is so fraught I think it's hard to know what his chances are in any case.

I hope Liverpool get well soon, believe it or not I hope the Glazers pull their fingers out soon. I don't want us to be winning championships by default, I want us to reign over a golden age in English football ;)

Good luck

Fair enough.

Just got a bit touchy when you said we were obsessed with money. Actually most of us can't believe we got lucky when a few years ago we were looking like doing a Leeds.

For a club like City I can't think of a set of circumstances that would have let us compete at the top without a large injection of funds. We didn't start it but unfortunately that's the game today.
