Disabled and Free Parking

Can someone please explain why if you're disabled you get to park in a lot of places for free? I agree with special disabled places nearer to entrances etc, but why should it be free?

I suspect if your disabled (genuinely) then you no doubt they will be on a lower income because of that disability, and free parking is an easy way to help them in their everyday lives.

I thought I lived in caring society where those through no fault of their own find themselves on the lowest spoke of fortunes wheel are helped/protected by the State.

Now the scum bags who cheat because they are to lazy to go to work thats a different story.

Just my opinion thats all.

Wrong question.
Why shouldn't it be free? After all, it makes a material benefit to their lives (lives that are already difficult enough).
Does giving them free parking have an actual, measurable, harmful effect on your quality of life? If not, why the fuck does it bother you?

I really can't distinguish between the satirical and the serious in this thread. As a result I'm not sure whether to laugh or be concerned.

I know, great isn't it! :)

I think what I've actually done there is describe 90% of threads in the Cellar.

It just feels like more of a surprise in this one somehow.
The thread was started by a shit stirring **** who has now gone to ground and some of the usual suspects moaning that disabled people get special dispensations.
He has lobbed in the grenade and is probably knocking one out with glee to see the shitstorm unfolding;did I mention he's a ****.

I really couldn't give a shit about this :) it's nothing. But regarding the human nature thing, I'm not sure that's true, that's too broad. I know I wouldn't abuse it if I had a disability but was able to walk. I'd feel like a right dick jogging back to my car next to some bloke struggling to get in in his wheelchair.

There are people that will abuse it and people that don't, I phrased that badly, I should have said that there always will be some people that use it because they have the entitlement to have a blue tag on their car, even when they don't need to. I had an interesting conversation about this with a work colleague a while back concerning children's allowance. Both of us are entitled to it, neither of us are financially dependant on it, but he collects it and I don't. I don't blame him for collecting it but I think I realise better than he does that the money has to come from somewhere and usually it's from the pocket of somebody that could use it more. The same applies here and to issues like social housing imo.

I think you're right mate and you'll find a lot of genuinely disadvantaged people would rather struggle through than ask for any help at all. It can be extremely debilitating for a person to admit they can't do something as simple as walk a short distance.

If making sure we support those in need means having to put up with a few knobs that will take advantage of the system then it seems a small price to pay, doesn't it? What's a parking space in the grand scheme of things?

I've seen fake passes used on the like of only fools and horses and alternative comedy. It is a pain. If they've nicked your spot.

But to be fair that's not the fault of genuine disabled people, with the right badges obtained lawfully.

The folk that have fake badges are fraudsters and should be dealt with accordingly.

That is true.

So what your saying is there are no guards?

If thats the case it's a free for all and no one takes the subject seriously. And as a consequence genuine disabled people suffer.
