Disabled and Free Parking

Can someone please explain why if you're disabled you get to park in a lot of places for free? I agree with special disabled places nearer to entrances etc, but why should it be free?

Because a car is a necessity for disabled people. They cannot walk to the shops.

I don't know about the free parking spaces, but at the supermarkets where it's all free, they have those spaces with the wheelchair painting on the tarmac. But people who can walk fine always park in them...what's that about?
3 possibilities.
They have a disability that doesn't affect their ability to walk.
They're responsible for the transport of a disabled family member and get the blue badge.
They're wankers.
I actually witnessed a proper ding dong only a few months ago in sainsbury's car park regarding this
The Disabled person stayed in the car and the daughter went shopping while parked in a wheelchair slot,it was a fellow disabled person who was argueing saying it was out of order parking there if your mum or whoever is not leaving the vehicle........

Who they think they are this so called disabled lot most of them are just putting it on I know because I've seen it on Channel 4 and 5 its all a big con. Get them down for that ATOS test they'll sort the skiving buggers out and get them badges off them.

A civilised society shouldn't have to think twice about trying to make life a little easier for people with disabilities.

Do you know I can find one of them dear chap? The one that I live in certainly isn't if the media isn't persecuting the sick, the poor the needy, or the immigrants then I realise that I'm in a different country.

Exactly the point every one seems to miss, we can choose to walk, jog, run or cycle to the shops, sadly disabled blue badge holders have no choice,

This is the point exactly, I have no choice but to go by car to where ever I go.
