"Disappointing" attendances

I like to think that last night we reverted to our hardcore 30,000.

Re-arranged game, awful weather, smash on the m62, half term resulted in only the loyal hard core turning up.

30,000 average when we won the league in ‘68, 30,000 in div 3, as long as that hard core always turn up im happy
You should go back to that period and look at the Cup crowds. City fans from outlying areas need notice to make plans as trains stop running in the late evening. Well over 80% of City's match going fans are season card holders many of whom don't live in Greater Manchester

Fucking hell, how many of these threads do we need?!

I'll quote my post from the "don't blame the fans" thread.

Anyone moaning about empty seats will fall into a few different categories and either can't empathise or won't.

1. Local. Basic 9-5 job, no kids (or wife or family who just gets dumped with the kids on match days), never had to leave Manchester for work, family, or otherwise. Can't understand why someone else's priorities might differ.

2. Foreign fan who sees all the circled seats and empty spaces on twitter and *knows* they'd be there every game if they lived closer and the locals are letting down the club.

3. No responsibility to speak of - job serves a purpose of funding city, lives in shared accomodation or with family. Can't understand why someone else's priorities might differ.

Or a combination of each. I myself have fallen into each of these categories and had similar thoughts about fans not turning up or leaving early.

I've lived and worked in the city centre with my wife, no kids, good jobs, and we've made every home game several seasons in a row.

Previously I've moved abroad, for family and then work when I was in my 20s. Looked at attendances on tele and thought, I'd be there every day if/when I move back.

I've lived with family when younger, with a disposable income that just went on city and booze. Couldn't understand why people would miss a game.

Well this year we moved 30 minutes out of the city centre. Decent house prices, nice area, decent schools. We stayed to the end last night as we usually do, and a combination of the redundant 4 minutes added on and ambling fans more concerned with their phones and smoking caused us to miss our train by a minute. So we got home half an hour later than we could have done - I have to be up at 5:45 for work and she's 20 weeks pregnant. We don't mind missing a train at the moment, but it's going to get to a point where a midweek fixture in what's a dead rubber of a title race and almost guaranteed top four just isn't the priority it once was. When the baby comes we'll have to take it in turns going to the games because our parents have moved away from Manchester and we accept the responsibility of having a kid comes before football (until it's old enough to appreciate it!).

And that's not even going into cost of going! We're lucky enough that we have money and savings. Not everyone can afford it.

Anyone moaning about attendances is ignorant to real life and responsibilities or just fucking thick.

Just because city (or another club for any lurkers) is your number one priority in life does not mean it will be everyone else's. City is going to fall a couple of places in my priority hierarchy over the next year, I might be one of the ones leaving early or missing a midweek rearranged fixture. Are you going to fucking tell me you're disappointed in me because I had the audacity to have a family and make more responsible decisions during the week?!

Also not covered above, that aren't a problem for me but it certainly was for others, are the road conditions and closures.

Another valid reason for having to miss a rearranged fixture would be shift work.

I'll say it again - if you're moaning about other people not turning up to a fucking game of football because they have other responsibilities and obstacles in life, you lack empathy, are willfully ignorant, or just fucking thick.

Neither me nor the daughter could go last night but both our tickets sold; suggests it's not a demand issue but rescheduling one.

There are obviously numerous reasons why the attendance was lower last night, but it was MUCH lower than I’d imagined it would be!

There were swathes of empty seats.

There’s no way that was just down to people going on holiday or traffic issues. There will have been thousands who could have gone last night but could not be arsed.

Yes but there is a balance. If you project you will need it, it's better to build before rather than after the need so you aren't losing out during the build, and obviously it would be cheaper now than in say 5 years. If there is no expectation af a requirement in the forseeable future then that's different.
IMO if it was built now, within 3 years of opening it would be full or over 90% full for the majority of games.

I like you

I'm a plastic fan from 1970. I live 120 miles away and am a seasoncard holder. I didn't go last night but had travelled 20 miles before turning around for the postponed game. A midweek game means taking a halfday off work and getting home at 1 am. The drive up takes a good hour longer for a night game so after weighing it up chose the armchair option. But watching it last night made me think for the first time that it is the football that is dampening the enthusiasm. Don't get me wrong, we play some great stuff, but it's the other teams approach which is killing it as a spectacle. West Ham were so negative and seemed happy to take a 2 0 defeat and this seems to happen most weeks, even utd approached it that way but got lucky.
