"Disappointing" attendances

Why do reporters always ask our manager about attendances? I wonder if that to other managers?

Because our manager brought the subject up this time, the reporter just responded and why do you think that is....
Thsts why alot are pissed of Pep started it !! Not the press/media

The problem isn't the tickets, it's the prices of everything else. I go a few times a year but I can't afford to go more than that and I only live 30 miles away.

The season ticket is more than doable but here is the problem for me. The train is £15 return, a drink is a fiver and food it depends. Multiply this by a number of people and you're talking at least £100-£200 a game just to get everyone there and make sure they are fed.

Some people are attending 25+ home games a season, that's £2500-£5000 on transport, drink and food before you've even bought any tickets....

I don't do too badly but I definitely can't afford that so the poor folk earning not that much will have absolutely no chance.

So yeah, against a lower league team and on a Sunday at 1pm... Of course people are going to watch it for free on TV instead.

Should be pretty obvious to a man who complains there are too many games.

Add in the post-Xmas financial squeeze, the fact it’s a competition not taken very seriously, and the fact it is televised live... and there’s your answer.

His press mumblings are mainly shit anyway. We’ll probably hear him blowing smoke up utd’s arses later this week.

Pep needs to call the ticket office and see how difficult it is to get seats, especially if you want more than 2 together, even for yesterday. Then turn up and see if he can get in, of out 3 yesterday we had two on our cards and only one card worked, a printed ticket that didn't work, luckily had a print at home ticket for that one which I opened on my phone and the QR code let us in. Sodding useless The ticket office is almost as bad as the media team who let the club get walked all over
I was unable to get a response from the ticket office after ringing up numerous times last week. All you hear is that awful music, it seems they have no interest in encouraging sales or enquiries by phone.

not read all thread very disappointed in peps words and not by reporter who was most probably asking under orders or self glee but surly that city matters panel must bring this up at next meeting and point out this thread 39,000 is still a great turn out on sunday dinner for a game on tv

In this instance Pep can fuck right off.
The problem is common to most people in the football world, they have no grasp of financial reality.

The cost of going to football is outrageous, and most "normal" people who go on a regular basis have to make sacrifices to do so.

Pep, Ferran and Co should realise that.

I would also add nearly 40k for a game watching City's 2nd team against a poorly supported Championship team and with a derby on Wednesday is a very decent attendance.

Pep is on something north of 13million a year and a 100k watch on his wrist, got to say he disappointing me with his comments.

If Pep doesn't like it perhaps he can dig into his own pockets and help the fans out.

it’s not just the cost though is it, it’s hassle, it’s on tv, it’s the fa cup, we have semi against the rags Wednesday , it’s a Sunday .

there are just so many games and how people can commit to go to all of them I do not know with family commitments and work and also having some sort of life outside football.

The media have been hunting City for years and this is their latest weapon. As usual they are missing the bigger issue which is the death of our domestic cup competitions. Premier League attendances will follow.
If you’re being hunted, it’s generally best not to paint a target on your back.

Our PR department should be more proactive and feed Pep some useful lines.

Bigger news yesterday was the dippers’ dissing of the FA Cup.

Because our manager brought the subject up first the reporter just responded and why do you think that is....

Perhaps he knew the question was coming and tried to head it off as he's worried about a complacent turn out and atmosphere for Wednesday night.
Cut him some slack, he deserves it.

The t.v. companies, satellite and terrestrial, plus Now TV pound us to watch their 'product' either through subscriptions pr individual matches. When they achieve that aim they criticise us for 'low attendances' in the commentary or on websites or subsequent programmes and are joined in this by their mates and even stablemates in the print media.

No matter how well City play they rarely get the praise they deserve as a team or individuals - just mercenaries despite Kompany, Silva and Kun spending many years with us. People are led to believe we are a tainted product and it becomes difficult to atttact new match going fans.

Those who control the agenda are always in a win-win situation.

If Pep wasnt aware of the complexities in relation to our attendance figures before he made his comments he will be now. Interesting to see what happens next. He's clearly pssed off a large number of match going fans.

Love him as a manager and hope he extends his contract, but he really doesn’t do himself any favours with these comments. Don’t get me wrong - the media set him up at times but some it is his own doing too.
Oh, and 39000 is still 17000 more than Pep’s Barca got against Shakhtar in the Champions League during his all-conquering first season managing them. I bet he never called that out though.

The BBC chose our game , a free footy match on the telly is a rarity nowadays and is bound to effect the attendance , and who is first to stick the boot in because we only had the third highest attendance of the round , the BBC.
Those c*nts at the BBC in Salford have an agenda, you can just imagine them all sat in their Rag shirts devising another way to slate our club , its pointless complaining because you just get the same bullshit reply. The sooner non payment of the TV licence is de-crimalised the better , and they will not get another bean from me.

If Fulham had brought as many as Port Vale we'd have had 46-47,000 there at least. For a match against Championship opposition, kicking off at 1pm on a Sunday and live on free-to-air TV it's not terrible.

Pep can't really win when he's asked a question like that but a more diplomatic answer wouldn't go amiss. Something like "I only worry about the team" or even go on the front foot and say "Did you ask Olé Gunnar Solskjær that question on Wednesday when there were loads of empty seats?"

True but he just gave a matter of fact answer to a question he should not have been asked in the first place.

I'll repeat some of what I said in the Match thread.

Don't see why he shouldn't be disappointed with the turnout. I know I was disappointed not to see more people in the stadium but that is not a dig. I traveled up today from Oxfordshire but I also decided that I won't use my ticket on Wednesday (someone will though). I do understand why people don't go to games like this but it's still disappointing when the ground is not full.

You can certainly understand why Pep is hoping for a better turnout for a Derby and wants our support to get behind the team.

He didn't appear to be whinging to me and I think he was far more focused on having people come and really get behind the team on Wednesday because he knows that tie is not won yet and his biggest enemy is complacency on the pitch and, to a lesser degree, in the stands.

If the stadium had been packed yesterday and the fans had been baying for blood rather than offering up the occasional half-hearted "Com'n City", we might have seen some more urgency on the field...

He criticised his team yesterday so why should he big up the supporters?

I'm sure BTW, he knows of the possible reasons for people not being there, including Fulham not being a big draw but he wouldn't say that.

That may be true but it sure doesnt help when our manager brings it up without any prompting from the interviewer....

A bit north of 100K

The Richard Mille 'RM27-01 Rafa Nadal' was originally on sale for around €750,000 euros but is now worth somewhere in the region of €1.5 million, if you can find someone to sell you one. Only 50 of this model were made.

The 27-01 made history as the then lightest tourbillon watch ever made, at just 18.83 grams, including the strap.

Pep should try being a new city fan for a day he has to ring up for a ticket drive to the ground find a parking spot walk to the ground get frisked get in line for a beer then go and city with the city fans! He might then have a different perspective oh and there is two games in that week at home and you can only afford 1!

They live in different world and come across as pretty ignorant!

Some of the ridiculous comments on this thread about our most successful Manager EVER,just because he made a comment that he hoped the fans would get behind the team and have a bigger turnout was nothing to even discuss.
Some of the biggest whingers on this site are the ones who don`t even go to games.
Some people need to get a fucking spine and grow a pair of hairy ones.
