Discuss Pellegrini...(cont)

I am 53 - been going to City since I was 5 years old. Theres a big period in there where we effectively did nowt though I enjoyed every game for what it was. Mancini changed all that and yes it seems he could cause a fight in an empty room but one FA Cup then the Holy Grail means there will always be a brew on for Bobby were he ever to call round to my house.

Pellers has a quieter dignity - he is a gentleman under whom we will win the league. This year that will be one domestic cup and the league in the same season. For that reason and his demeanour when Pellegrini pops in it will be in the best china !!

Manuel, we need the game of your life at Goodison. Please!

Personally I think we need to show the calmness we showed today. If you contrast the way our players reacted to the final whistle versus the way the scousers have in recent weeks, it strikes me that that calmness could be our biggest asset.

If the players step up for the boss in the remaining games as they did today then the title will be ours and Pellegrini will have done a fucking double in his first season in the league.
It will be a amazing first season for pellers if we do indeed take the title
I'll be honest I thought it would be abt par or just under had we only won the LC and faded in the last few league games, now no matter what we are near enough certain to be taking it to the last day & favs to win it again
I think your right abt us being pretty calm abt things too.

It's why I'm enjoyed this season so much and am still enjoying it. There were no histrionics from Pellegrini after Liverpool/Sunderland, more a calm acceptance that it was out of our hands but that Liverpool would drop more points. He was right and I think that calmness could be repaid exponentially if we play without fear and without pressure at Everton.

It's not a debate that I will take much part in (because I'm in U.S. on business most of week) but Pellegrini does need to get his team selection and tactics right for Everton. However, I can't see him straying too far from his norms. If we are to win the title, we might as well do it in the way that we have gone about things so far.

I also think that it is far more about the players now. Composure or calmness will be crucial. It's about bottle and seeing the job through. Everton are the first obstacle of the end of the run-in and a tough opponent but City can go there and dominate if they put their minds to it.

I think edins post match interview spelled it out

"This Everton team like to play"

On song, which we will be, I feel we'll have to much, yaya had the eye of the tiger back yesterday, that spells danger (:

-- Mon Apr 28, 2014 12:02 pm --

We can do without language like that on here - it's a football forum!
Mods - have a word.

For all the criticism Yaya gets on the forum, I reckon you can count on one hand the number of times this season he hasn't had the eye of the tiger!

Fair point I think. I used the word solid when describing our performance against Palace but it could easily have been calm or composed or all three. It was just a team playing as if there was still business to be done without pressure and without panic. I was very comfortable watching us versus Palace and completely confident from Dzeko's goal onwards. Occasionally though, we do need a rocket up us. Think Sunderland.

It's a cliche but there is some truth in the axiom we have nothing to fear other than fear itself.

The fear in this instance is that of possible failure. However Manuel's job this week is to work on the minds of the players. Keep it simple and focused. There is a game to be won on the weekend, like every other weekend in the season. Each player needs to be switched on to their tasks during the game.

There is no greater motivation than the possibility of a premier league title. This is a perfect moment for Pellegrini. He can use his accumulated wisdom and experience to focus the players on their mission. As said above calmness can provide clarity.

I think Pellegrini is the perfect man for such a situation.

I guess the next two weeks will bare this out one way or the other - but yeah I agree.
