They didn't last season.

Or 3 seasons ago...........
All right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?

I showed that clip to one of my almost teenage daughters at the weekend as they are both doing essays on what the Romans did for Britain in Latin but she wasn't impressed and couldn't be persuaded to use the line "what have the Roman's ever done for us?" in her essay. I was hugely disappointed; although not as disappointed as I was with the football results.

I wish we could go back to being shit again and watching the likes of Bob Taylor leading the line.

It was so much easier in them days just booing rather than happily clapping all the time

I like clapping happily, in fact I can't remember the last time i clapped unhappily - oh yeah alan ball
We used to be experts at Unhappy Clapping.

Don't you remember the old slow hand clap we used to do when we weren't happy at Maine Road?

(Un) Happy days.

Is that what it was, I thought everyone was just warming their hands up in sync on a wet winters day?

It does make you wonder what this site would've been like back in them days, Ric would be raking it in with the commission from the Samaritans.

the passage of time has an amazing ability to alter the truth, you tend to look back through a lens of nostalgia - the truth is they were quite desperate days, i was often distraught and only the shared camaraderie of fellow blues made it bearable

these are truly halcyon days and whilst week in week out my emotions can fluctuate wildly, the overall trend is positive and i'm intent on enjoying it as much as i can - so when i look back in 20 years time i won't need that damn lens!

I used to unclap my hands at every pass that was made by Alphons. Whwn Kit played the ball forward, I shook my head in despair. When Fitzroy wore his Asics, I hated it. No Gola, no cheer.

Indeed I do. Along with the timeless classic "what the fuck is going on?"

No. Just fucking no. You are the biggest clown on here. I'm one alcoholic ****, but at least I know my shortcomings...you're just sad.

I like being different..I'm not a sheep.I form my own opinions about what I watch week in week out.
Do you think I care if you like me,if rammy likes me or not???this isn't the school yard you immature tool.
You accuse me of something and then cant back it up,probably because of being pissed if the above is true.
If we had lost at spurs..chelsea and arsenal id agree with the performance side of things..cardiff,villa and stoke..this is what my issue is,now take off those blue tints just for once..fuck all has changed so far on the pitch..great at home..shite away.
Facts are there in black and white.shame many cant see it.

-- Tue Oct 01, 2013 4:13 am --

Come on F.F.S. At this point it should have nothing to do with blue tinted glasses.

10-1 in the League at home (15-1 if you add the Wigan game). Away; yes it's Cardiff , Stoke Plzen and Villa, BUT FFS ....we are 4 f***ing away games in with a new Manager and new System! That's not being realistic, that's just negative. Villa beat Arsenal. Stoke and Everton made Liverpool and Chelsea look bad away.
If the results don't improve at West Ham and Chelsea and beyond you had a point ... but not yet.

Villa haven't won at home for 5 years. They haven't scored more than 1 goal at home in the last 3 years. Their top strikers are out, both central defenders are playing with collapsed lungs, and they have a six year old at left back....oh, and the tea lady switched to Brooke Bond last week gone.

Ha ha those were the days, although I will have you know I was always a happy clapper (apart from when Ball was the manager)

If he wants to challenge in the PL he needs to re-think the balance between attack and defence. If we were anything like as solid at the back as we've been in previous years we'd be top by now. Wenger has recognised that a solid back four with enough goals is the right formula. The team with the best defence will win the title - it won't be about who scores the most goals. Looking ahead to Everton, I'd definitely play Lescott at CB to go against Lukaku.

But we haven't really conceded any goals due to our defence being more open. We've conceded two direct free-kicks, two corners, one blatantly offside goal and one from an awful mistake by our two centre-backs. The only goal that I think you could even remotely blame on Pellegrini's more aggressive system is the first against Cardiff, and that's still arguably more to do with the players not doing their jobs (going with a runner/preventing a cross coming in) than with any inherent deficiencies in our formation.

So far this season, we're conceding fewer shots per game than last season (9.2 to 10.4) and making more tackles per game too (19.3 to 18), while also conceding fewer fouls (10.5 to 12,4). So I don't think we need to panic about being more 'open' - that really isn't the problem as far as I can see.
