As I said, the 90m has only replaced outgoings,we have replaced Tevez,Balo,Barry and Toure only with players of similar ability - I don't think we have actually improved the squad much if at all,it still lacks depth, especially given the injuries we have had to contend with.

The problems at defensive midfield, centrehalf, left back and left wing still exist.

When we're already having to leave Milner/Rodwell/Jovetic off the bench I can't see how many players we can add that'll be overjoyed with that role.

Rodwell and Jovetic are crocks though,as for Milner,as much as I admire him,is he really top class?
Other than a first 15 or so,our squad really isn't brilliant and definitely unbalanced in terms of ability and options.

No he isn't.

Kompany/Yaya/Silva/Aguero are the only really top class players for me.

They are the only players that would consistently get into Bayern/Madrid/Barca sides....

Sticking to my guns on this one.
Pellegrini is in over his head and will not take us forward.
Please note that this is my opinion and my opinion only. I hope my opinion is wrong.
However - despite my view - The club simply has to stick with him for now.
I hope he has the balls to drop Hart tomorrow.

Well its better than Chelsea's in terms of striking power. And Arsenal's. Most neutrals seem to think we have the best overall and the best balanced squad in the PL. What we have now is better or at least comparable to what we had last year or in the title winning season. So we are back to the question raised at the start of the season. Q. Manchester City have strengthened their squad from last year and upgraded their manager. Where do you see them finishing this year having finished a disappointing 2nd last year? A. 3rd.

And 3rd would have most people happy. Its a funny old world.

I actually don't think there is that much to click into place, take the Villa game, that was some of the best football we have played it was stupid lapses of concentration that did for us.

I can't really explain Wednesday night because I know we are a much better side than that

Call me negative but - 4-4-2 causes so many problems.

The defence is exposed

Yaya can't effectively cover the ground to press

Nastasic is always forced into being the ball distributor by opponents as we lack the structure in the middle to play the ball out any other way. Failing that Yaya drops in and leaves us with an attack starting with only 1 man in the middle.

Navas wide but Nasri tucked in means the whole team is lopsided. The left back comes forward to compensate leaving us vulnerable to attacks down the side which should protect the weaker of our 2 CBs.

There's no link man in the 10 role so the forwards are served mainly by crossing, one of the things we're weakest at. We've arguably 2 of the best 10s in Europe yet nowhere for them to play.

Even when we play well we lose effort into compensating for the problems. Compare this to Bayern who could morph shape into filling wherever we left gaping holes, whose one potential weakness is a high line.

We played great football at Villa but even then not playing to our strengths the opportunities were not lethal ones and we only scored thanks to their weakness at defending set pieces.

Tactically do you guys disagree with this analysis?

Probably. But we don't play BM/RM or Barca week in, week out. We play Cardiff. We play Villa. We play Hull. Milner for these sides would be a fucking God. Hell Barry is now a fucking God at Everton and I wouldn't call him world class either.

Part of our 'problem' is our embarrassment of riches in some areas and the lack of quality in others.
Im pretty sure Pellegrini hasn't even figured out his best 11 yet and certainly not the formation to compliment them........

Maybe he should try something other than 4-4-2 then

Isn't there an argument that a stronger manager would actually play Hart tomorrow? I am pissed off with Hart this season and he is not world class as many on here claim he is. However, the press are all over this one and I think he needs to stay in.

The next 4/5 games are absolutely vital for us now. Arsenal and Spurs have pretty easy games and we have to keep in touching distance. Tomorrow is huge for us because if we don't win there with 3 hard away games to come, the pressure will ramp up.

Win tomorrow and West Ham and everything looks good again.

I still have doubts myself especially on the tactical side of things but will give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

Our squad is good enough to win any of three domestic comps and to compete in Europe.

Expectations for me should be no less than they were last season which IIRC were to be in a title race, win a domestic cup and get to the knockout stages of the champions league.

If we dont meet those expectations (especially league and champions league) Pellegrini's first year will be a failure. Not necessarily one that would cost his job but a failure anyway.

Definitely.

We don't even have the players that suit a true 442.
