It's funny how two people can watch the same game and come to completely different conclusions about it. I thought we were piss poor. That's the beauty of football I suppose.

TBF, your default setting is "piss poor". :)

I'm surprised you can still type with your head in the sand. I'm impressed ;).

Personally, cutting through all the crap, I think it is no more simple than we need to be playing 4-2-3-1 away from home. Nothing more, nothing less. Otherwise our indifferent form on our travels will continue.

We need to be controlling possession and dictating the game and without the extra body in the middle it will never happen.

There is no point referencing Yaya's lack of mobility as we all know this anyway so surely MP should be realising he has to alter tactics.

It's certainly frustrating, and slightly worrying as it seems so unnecessary - playing in 4 lines (same as we've done previously and Arsenal do at the moment) just makes it so much easier to control the game.

Opinions are like arseeholes, we all have one

In my opinion then if you are behind MP your seeking attention. you are quite clearly a nervous wreck

I can vouch for the credentials of Exeter Blue being behind Pellegrini without any hesitation. And he most certainly is not seeking attention.
For him to write what he has speaks volumes to be fair.

Thank you.

I think our problem away from home stems from trying to impose a game plan that we don't have the personnel for against certain teams (Southampton, Liverpool, Everton, Swansea etc). If you're gonna set yourselves up to press you need players who are mobile, quick and technically adroit enough to make it work, and ditto when the opposition tries it on you. Ya Ya, magnificent player though he is, just isn't built for shuttle running, and Milner, though fit as a butcher's dog, is very one paced. Chuck Kolarov and Di Michelis into the mix, and we were little better off yesterday than we were last season when Barry, Garcia, Lescott and Dzeko wilted in the face of the same onslaught. The player I felt sorry for yesterday was Fernandinho, who resembled the boy with his fingers in the dike.

Contrast with Lallana and Shaw, both of whom I'd happily buy like a shot, who had the pace, skill and athleticism to go past our players like they weren't there.

I suspect Pellegrini will want to make changes next summer. My hope, with away trips to Goodison, Klanfield, WHL, Swansea and the Emirates still to come, is that we will gather enough points at home to ensure CL qualification in the meantime

Those away fixtures still to come make me squirm frankly - can only see another 4/5 away wins at most

I agree with all of that, except I'd be going 4-1-4-1.

I don't draw too many positives from yesterday to be honest. I don't think we defended particularly well. They created lots of chances and missed some sitters. We were extremely fortunate to get a draw and overall we deserved to lose the game.

The fact that we were outplayed for 80 minutes by a budget side with half their players missing, is not anything I can take comfort from. I also don't buy this "yes but they are a great side" line. A, we should be greater. B, we made them look better than they are by giving them the ball all the time.

I would just say bad day at the office, but it's not the first time is it. As well as the hideous away defeats this season, we were outplayed at home by Hull FFS, only for the result to paper over those cracks.

Very much work to do IMHO. And some of our players are just not good enough.

Yes ... my tits are definitely becoming irritated by the persistence with 442. With everyone now coming back to full fitness I'd like to see the manager be a little more circumspect in certain circumstances.

Having said that, I'm not convinced he will in the PL and even if he doesn't the league is still there to be won. We will still be imperious at home and we'll still beat most teams away.

I dunno ... maybe hgblue's assertion that I've got my head buried is true without me knowing it because really from where I'm sat nothing's changed since yesterday. We are still the best team in the league IMO and we're still best equipped and best placed to win it. Even taking into consideration Arsenal's lead.

We need to get a minimum of 23/25 points away from home to make it a tight race if we win all our home games.

if 4-4-2 is irritating your tits how do you think I feel...

They did not create a lot of chances.

They had 8 efforts on goal, 4 on target and we had the best chances even if most came in the early part of the game

I think that was our best defensive performance to date, although going forward we were not a force at all
