Discussion: Manuel Pellegrini 2015/16

I've said it before and I'll doubtless say it again: we were a far better balanced team in 2011-12 than 2013-14 and ultimately a better team period. Pellegrini has destroyed our defence. Demi is our best defender and even he looks better playing for so called "all out attack" Argentina. God help us in the CL.

I don't agree with this at all. We started well 11-12 but went straight downhill after new year. Beat over two legs by Liverpool in the League Cup and beaten by Utd in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup at home. We also finished 3rd behind Napoli in our CL group. The season was rescued because we put a run together in the last 6 games and even then we struggled to beat QPR at home a team which had the worst away record in the PL.

13/14 team won the Premier League & League Cup, got to the quarter final of the FA Cup, became the first City team to get past the CL group stage and scored the most goals by an English club in all comps in the history of English football. We had a shaky spell early on where we didn't do well away but after that we were solid for most of the season.

Thats one thing Chelsea do have, a settled system, their back 4 and Matic sat in front is machine like, well drilled and well managed on-field by both Terry and Cahill

Any manager that has Kolarov in his defence, is going to have trouble getting them to keep shape.
Saying that, Kompany wasn't at the races today. Then we have the rest of the team, who didn't
leave the stables. Had trouble with simple passes today. I'm hoping this is down to being jaded
from being in a hard training phase and that we are ready to peak for start of season.

Now i understand we were garbage today, but to harp on about us being
shit at defending, all the time, is not factually correct. We've had some games
where there have been some right rickets. But we've had a lot where we have
been solid and looked OK. I don't get this we're shit, period and it's all Pellegrini's
fault. His tactics/formations in some of the big games have been questionable
and he is not beyond reproach, but to blame him for every goal we concede

Well I also think the 2012 team was better balanced than the 2014 team. We went neck to neck with our local rivals, a better side than the Liverpool team of 2014, and also did not have the experience of ever winning the Premiership.

To clinch it the manner we did, with 89 points, beating our main rival in both games, one in a pressure game we had to win and they could take the draw and the other a 6-1 thrashing was incredible. Add to this Chelsea won the Champions League that year, Arsenal had a firing RVP and Spurs had Bale, Modric VDV etc the competition was much fiercer. But fair play you also make some valid points, not sure why you feel it necessary to be so dismissive of an alternative viewpoint.
