It's a stunning statistic, regardless.

Yep, averages out at 2.39 a game, if I had to guess I'd say only Barcelona and Bayern might have beaten that over a 30 month period, Bayern are in a tinpot league and that Barca team were special. Add in that he's only the third foreign manager to win the prem in his first year and our away record under him in Europe and it's bloody impressive.

Real Madrid are ahead as well - they've scored lots in the last couple of years. 118 in the league alone last season.

It doesn't alter the fact that his underlying "big picture" numbers are superb. As examples:

i) Goal Difference in the league in his 2 and a bit seasons is now up to 127. That is a huge 72 goal difference higher than the Rags and 49 higher than Chelsea over the same period.

ii) Goals scored in the league in his 88 league games is vastly superior to the "rivals":

City 211
Liverpool 166
Arsenal 161
Chelsea 160
United 143

iii) Defensively in the league we are only 2nd behind Chelsea in terms of goals conceded over the 2 and a bit seasons - 84 compared to 82

iv) An interesting shift is in the number of "goal attempts" conceded per game. In the title win season 13/14 we had the fewest attempts against us @ 9.4 per game. Last year we were third best @ 10.2 per game which is still very good (Mancini was 10.4 in 11/12).

This year we are running @ 7.2 per game which is so low it is as sensational in my eyes as the goals scored figures you highlighted and as far as I can see is pretty much unprecendented in the Premier League and is obviously the lowest of any team in the league this season and the 4th lowest in Europe.

v) You mention Champions League away record. His all-time record in group games away from home might be the best of all managers (I'll check this out at some point). Simply, with the 4 clubs he has managed in the CL he is losing only once every 10 games.Home form could do with improvement :)

Keep up the good work Manuel.

He might be a cowardly senile old ****. But seems he isn't too shabby as a football manager. :)

Excellent post that mate

I love the fact that we have a manager who plays the right way. We don't sit back and park the bus, we attack attack attack until we find the back of the net. I don't know how long Pellegrini will be at City, but I for one and very thankful towards him for the way we play. Manuel you charming man

Yet the narrative about us is always along the lines of us scraping through to our titles, how we've been lucky other teams have slipped up and we've capitalised.
It doesn't help when it comes from our own fanbase on occasion. It'd be nice if everyone saw exactly what we've been up to and took it as a whole instead of going apeshit over the odd dropped points here and there.

Exactly Billy, I wish people would just enjoy the ride, Pellegrini has and is a brilliant manager, and he's the reason why we play the most attractive football I've seen from a City side.

It's always the defensive stats that make me chuckle. They show that the way we play is not only ridiculously effective in the attacking third but that in the defensive third it's not half as haphazard and loose as its often characterized as.

MP is a manager who will be missed far more when he's gone than people realize. Especially if Pep isn't his replacement.
