I think priorities were at play, just maybe not the ones we'd like to hear.

Genuine question, had we been playing Boro in the carling cup on Wed night d'you think he'd have picked the same team because I don't. I think the risk would've been run with Otamendi and Fernandinho on the basis that they would get a rest mid week. What grates is that Delph didn't get a start when his performance when he came on showed he's ready to start.

I'd suspect almost certainly they would have been "risked". Pelle's main target would appear to be CL and winning the group and the pressure for that must come from above. On this theme, one scary thought that YayA was pulled against Liverpool not because it wasn't working but resting him also for Juve.

I'm probably one of Toure's biggest fans, but i totally agree with that. Mind you I don't think Pellegrini will. If anything I suspect his substitution at half time was as much about 'saving' him for Juve as it was about his abortion of a performance in the first half.

You beat me to it :)

I can see the logic with him starting in Turin, actually. However, on Saturday, it should have been Delph! Some clever man-management is now required and maybe Yaya will have a 'knock' and so not start against Southampton.

In our home leg they were well organised and restricted our play. In our return game they were very similar to us on Saturday totally unbalanced allowing us to play at will through them. Fuck me they even made Bony look good.

But that might have also helped with the one formation we have played that actually works for us. But why stick with that we might as well change it.
Mate I think you're doing us a great disservice. We handed a very good team their arses on a plate and it was all down to the way we set up and the personnel we used which was down to Manuel and that's why our subsequent performances have been so hard to take. How can Manuel go from that to Liverpool on Saturday? It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

I suspect that topping the group is the current priority, and I actually think the state of the league in general has reinforced that. If there was a significant gap between us and the top of the table it'd be i reckon a different story. But in a season where really, nobody looks like an outstanding side, I think the higher ups can justify resting certain players on Saturday night for the sake of topping the group.

He quite possibly would not have picked the same team if we did not have Juve next but I would have prioritized the Dippers over Juve in this instance. Delph did look as though he could have started and putting him in instead of Navas and also asking Sterling and KDB to sit in to begin with might - as others have noted - have made a big difference.

In view of Delph's injury record this season I don't think it was at all unreasonable for him to be on the bench. If he'd started and limped off early on can you imagine the reaction on here? It looks now that he could have started, but its very much a 20/20 hindsight view. Hope he starts on Wednesday though.

Other than Pellegrini's incompetence I am not sure why we are not an outstanding side.
