I think Pellegrini told his defenders at half time no matter what the consequenses, play the high line so that we can actually put pressure on our opponents. The result was the back line stood near the halfway line instead of halfway their own half as in the 1st 45 minutes. We know we are good in small areas and stink when we let opponents have space. The 2nd half is exactly the way Pellegrini wants his team to play and yes, it's a risky method that can make the defence look fragile at times. But it also gives you the opportunity to outscore the opposition and what footie wouldn't want to see goals and an exciting game. Thanks to Pellegrini we have seen plenty.
I'm not talking Liverpool and Stoke recently because whatever tactics you wanna use, when the players simultaniously take a day off there's nothing you can do as a manager.
The comments and moaning were in place these last couple of days. Whatever the players showed was pathetic to say the least. No matter the injuries, we can all see when players simply don't put the effort in for whatever reason. And a lack of confidence can only fade with results and a manager keeping trust in his players. The lack of confidence shone through in the 1st 45 minutes/ That's why the defence held back, spaces grew and we completely lost control for them to counter attack. And BMG are simply a very good side, like every German side who visited the Etihad over the last few years. The 2nd half was great and this is exactly what Pellegrini's way of thinking brings. Even without absentees like Kompany, Aguero, or our characterboy Zabaleta. Well done and we deserve to finish top of this group. More of the same please this Saturday...
