Discussion: Manuel Pellegrini 2015/16

I think Pellegrini told his defenders at half time no matter what the consequenses, play the high line so that we can actually put pressure on our opponents. The result was the back line stood near the halfway line instead of halfway their own half as in the 1st 45 minutes. We know we are good in small areas and stink when we let opponents have space. The 2nd half is exactly the way Pellegrini wants his team to play and yes, it's a risky method that can make the defence look fragile at times. But it also gives you the opportunity to outscore the opposition and what footie wouldn't want to see goals and an exciting game. Thanks to Pellegrini we have seen plenty.
I'm not talking Liverpool and Stoke recently because whatever tactics you wanna use, when the players simultaniously take a day off there's nothing you can do as a manager.

The comments and moaning were in place these last couple of days. Whatever the players showed was pathetic to say the least. No matter the injuries, we can all see when players simply don't put the effort in for whatever reason. And a lack of confidence can only fade with results and a manager keeping trust in his players. The lack of confidence shone through in the 1st 45 minutes/ That's why the defence held back, spaces grew and we completely lost control for them to counter attack. And BMG are simply a very good side, like every German side who visited the Etihad over the last few years. The 2nd half was great and this is exactly what Pellegrini's way of thinking brings. Even without absentees like Kompany, Aguero, or our characterboy Zabaleta. Well done and we deserve to finish top of this group. More of the same please this Saturday...
Agree with a lot of that mate but we lost twice to juve the only top side in our group and were fortunate against mgb away and Sevilla at home. Really pleased we topped the group but to say we deserved it is a little strong.

Gamble in taking De Bruyne off paid off. I thought at that moment he'd given up and was prioritising Saturday. He was certainly thinking ahead but these are the calls the manager makes. It didn't go down well with the crowd
I thought it was absolutely the right call at the time. We needed possession to build the attacks. De Bruyne was giving the ball away way too many times especially in the first half. When we did have more possession he seemed to try to just play balls in instead of building that attacks more. IMO I think that's part of the reason why we've been so poor in certain games like against Stoke. De Bruyne is a good player but he's much too direct. Tries to play in little one touch passes that doesn't come off. Then we lose possession and get countered on. Pelle needs to get in his ears and tell him he just needs to keep hold of the ball. There are times where even if it slows down the attack at least it keeps the ball away from the opponents. I feel a little for Pelle because there is pressure to play both Sterling and De Bruyne because of their price tags, but I don't think we should play both together. They both can't keep a hold of the ball and we're a team that tries to dominate possession. Then guys like Silva and Yaya aren't as effective when we're defending.

Deserves all the credit for a great performance, the way he set the defence out to play so badly and ship 2 soft goals In the first half, and then be able to turn it around to win at home against the worst team in the group, with 2 19 year olds in defence, was impressive.

The result didn't flatter to decieve. As poor as we were in that first half we didn't concede too many chances whilst at the other end we could have scored 5/6 on the night. Two polar opposites when it comes to performances in the first and second half but on overall play we deserved to win that game.
We were very poor in that first half, and gave 2 soft goals away out of absolutely nothing.

Against a better than average European team we don't come back to win that game.

Anything else? Calling the manager a "senile old ****" and a "fucking fraud" is acceptable as long as they want the team to win?
Personally I've never resorted to the silly name calling of any manager and don't advocate it as a way of getting your point across in any way shape or form. It's just a pity I can't recall you being so concerned about managers being called vile & disgusting names or when certain posters wanted City to lose when the previous incumbent was in place, but I suppose we can all guess why.

You reap what you sow..........

That's the point though, the two goals were from our own making whilst opportunities carved out by their own good play were few and far between. A better team may have done different but all's I can go on is what actually happened.
