Distance covered v Chelsea

Crazy that keepers cover almost 3 miles every game. They must just walk round their box aimlessly out of boredom.

Even more shocking is that we had someone in CM who only covered twice as much ground as our goalkeeper.

Out of interest what was the average age of our midfield to theirs? Too lazy to work it out myself

How the hell did the keepers cover nearly 3 miles in an 18 yard box? Especially when they didn't come rushing out of their box once.

Can some maths boffin work out how many lengths/laps of an 18 yard box that is?

We had 65% possession, that means the opposition are going to spend far longer running around chasing down the ball, no real surprise here.

My own thoughts.

However, I would say that Demichelis' figure really stands out, particularly for a centre mid in a 2 man midfield.

Fernandinho was an enormous miss on Monday night, his legs and energy, but most of all his quality.

It really is quite worrying how much of a dearth of quality we have in centre mid beyond Yaya and Fern.

De Michelis played well with the ball but his lack of coverage over the whole pitch was our main problem. He's great to shore things up in the last 25 minutes when we need to close out a game, but it was clearly in midfield where we lost this game and for me de Michelis lack of mobility was the main issue. Ally that to Negredo's clearly not able to put himself about in the usual way and it was no surprise Chelsea were dominant.

Ferna in the side and a full strength team and the game would have been very different imo
