Distance covered v Chelsea

How the hell did the keepers cover nearly 3 miles in an 18 yard box? Especially when they didn't come rushing out of their box once.

Can some maths boffin work out how many lengths/laps of an 18 yard box that is?

Hart = 40.08 laps of the box

Width= 40.3 mtrs (44 yards (18 yards + 8 yards + 18 yards)
Length 16.5 mtrs (18 yards)

40.3 +40.3+ 18+18 = 116.6 metres per lap.... Ooops 40.3 +40.3 + 16.5 + 16.5 = 113.6

Hart did 4554 metres / 116.6 = 30.05 4554 /113.6 = 40.08 laps =
Chec did 39.48 laps (sorry 40.52 laps)

This conclusively shows that chec must be the better, more hard working keeper, and that hart is crap ; )

Sorry I forgot to convert 18 yards to metres on my first attempt

Crazy that keepers cover almost 3 miles every game. They must just walk round their box aimlessly out of boredom.

Even more shocking is that we had someone in CM who only covered twice as much ground as our goalkeeper.

Well, if yer watch Joe, how many times does he gather the ball and then run like fuck to the edge of his box, stop, let the oppos reorganise an then run sideways a bit, and then boot it up field. Must all add up!

Sloppy work. Unforgivable. I can only assume that Pelly sought your advice in Munich.

:)

kolarovs was turning round and running back for the ball after he had ducked under another header... dont get me started on that statue up front(edin)

What a shock demichelis covering the least amount of ground for the midfielders despite some on here claiming he was our best player covering every blade of grass.

You can run every fucking where. It serves no purpose if you run about like a headless chicken.Demi played some great balls and at 34 years of age he`s hardly likely to be another Fernan.

In a 2 man midfield you need your defensive midfielder to cover everywhere, run his tits off all game to stop dangerous attacks, win the ball back and feed it to the team. What you just said shows how monumentally stupid it was to play a 2 man midfield if your DM is a 33 year old who couldn't outrun a slug.

Not necessarily. An experienced player will cut down space and save his legs. To call our manager monumentally stupid, which effectively
you are, is beyond a fucking joke. IMO.

Like all performance metrics, you need to be careful how you use or interpret them. However, I feel it is safe to conclude that if Yaya is a lazy bastard, we have a team of lazy bastards :)

If a player covers less ground than others because he played intellignetly and didn't waste effort, he has committed a crime.

im surprised with the amount of so called goalkeeping experts we seemed to have on this forum when joe was having a sticky patch at the start of the season ,that people don't actually know what goalkeepers do,

my word, 12.6 km for Matic? you rarely see a figure that high, crikey.

in Matic they've (re)signed a player that is ideal for this league, perhaps we should have had a go for him, he'd be perfect!

As with any stats you need to combine them with the evidence of your own eyes before drawing conclusions.

Also they would give a fairer indication over a number of matches.

Still, very interesting. Well done OP.
