Ditching Sky

I cancelled Sky Sports just by going on my online account ( no Telephoning required ). When you "click " to to confirm that you are changing your package , then they know you are serious and straight away you are taken to a page that gives the option of Clicking another button for half price for 6 months, easy way to save £13 a month.

Sky seem to do far better deals than Virgin which is a shame.

We would go free sat but there are a few must have channels ( sky 1, watch, Alibi ) that aren't on there.

You can stream SKY 1 on KODI if you must and i doubt there is anything on those other channels that you can't get via KODI.

Phoned up to get my dad a new deal he currently pays £65 without the movies they offered it me for £55, I pointed out he'd had sky since 1989 and that new customers can get everything for £30 a month for 12 months. They just couldn't do anything I pointed out about kodi and I think they know this is causing lots to cancel.
I'm going to cancel it and probably get the new customer deal at my house then take the box to his, he's getting on a bit and trying to get him using kodi is a pain I've tried, sky does everything he wants in one box unfortunately he's so used to it. I cancelled years ago and never looked back I rarely watch live tv anyway and with catchup and kodi I've saved a fortune.

You do realise that streaming Sky via Kodi is illegal don't you???

It's debatable whether watching it is illegal (it probably is), but providing the services most definitely is.

I am not sure telling Sky you can watch in on Kodi was the smartest idea tbh.

I did contemplate telling the nice sounding girl on the phone that i can get it all for free but i decided to keep quiet.

Just a mild point of order...

Kodi is NOT really the tool streaming this stuff... it's the dodgy plugins for Kodi that are allowing that.
Kodi's getting a terrible reputation because of it, and an awful lot of people are buying 'Kodi boxes' without understanding that they are actually buying a cheap Android box, with Kodi added then a load of dodgy plugins added on top of that. The plugins are accessing some very dodgy internet streaming services that come and go in the blink of an eye.

Anyway - just clarifying that it's not actually 'Kodi' doing this stuff. Many of you will already understand that, but many won't.

My other half is a stickler for things being legal too though.

If she wasn't I'd be all over the zGemma box.

Good point. A box or stick is an andriod based device, kodi is an app that allows you to source and play various media files, kodi plug ins are third party software that search the web for media files / streams and play them via kodi.

The android technology is now fairly cheap and simple to set up hence variouse types of 'box' you can get (Amazon firestick for only £30). Kodi is a very simple app and of itself it is not illegal or dodgy. The plug ins are also fairly simple and just act like search engines locating files / streams and link you up to them. The source of the streams (the clearly illegal bit) is not linked to kodi or even the plug in although they are built to find them.

There are many people on here who know an awful lot more than me about all things Kodi/Ares Wizard etc that have recommended it. That's good enough for me. Thanks Aguerooooo and others ;)

I've just renewed with sky this afternoon, They gave me an amazing deal to join ( All TV including movies and sports, internet and unlimited phone for 45 at the time ). Now its just over 50 for the same but no movies or sports. Didn't use them as much as we shoud anyways.
