Do Liverpool have a better system?

The lettered vouchers in the S/T book were used for applications for Cup ties or high profile aways like the swamp derby.
Yeah think your right seem to remember my dad sending off a ticket and cheque for the Middleborough semi final and having to sit on a plank behind the goal in platt lane

I'd love to know how many City fans at Bournemouth today had the required 15K points required to attend.
I've had a season ticket since loyalty points begain. Have been in all the cup schemes, always pay the Platinum upgrade, attend approx half of the away games for the past 30 years, including Bournemouth away 17 years ago in the third division. But I couldn't get a ticket for today's match.
Surely, all 1200 City fans there today haven't been to more games. The sale of tickets for the PSG game has really opened my eyes to the unfair distribution of tickets via the Supporters Clubs.
As a starting point I'd like to see this stopped with loyalty points the only way to purchase tickets.

You are missing a trick. You need to start helping your "mates" out more with the ones you don't attend! Problem solved.

Not many City fans in Seaford apart from my family to 'help out'!

When I was watching the online stream of the match today, there was a hell of a lot of youngsters in the City end, that makes me think - how the hell have they got more points than me and got a ticket for this game while I'm sat at home watching this match online.

Since they can tell which tickets actually attend the home games, as well as which ones bought the tickets, perhaps they should check the attendance for some of the games and make that a requirement.

I'd also make you swipe out when leaving if it's before the final whistle. Due to travel problems, you can leave early on any mid week game and one Saturday kick off, but any others and you lose the points/attendance record at the game.

More seriously, I've had a ST since Alan Ball's first season, but haven't been to away games for a good 10 years due to having a family. I therefore accept I'm way behind those who go away now and rightly so, with still enough for a domestic final but not enough for a big CL away game. But I'm still pissed off that I've been over taken in points by people who were willing to pay an extra £50 a year for a season ticket. That was where our system fell apart

It sold out on 15,500 points and I have 15,240 points so only just missed out. Luckily, I got a spare off someone but that's the first game since Bolton away in 2003 which I've wanted to go to but not qualified with my own points. If I'd wanted to go to Groclin the following season I wouldn't have qualified for that either but I think that is the last one before Bournemouth that I didn't have enough points for. Every other away match I've attended in the meantime I've never had a problem getting one with my points total.

One bloke I spoke to on the train down got his ticket through his supporters club branch - he's got less points than me and his branch only got 2 tickets. The reason he got one is because he's attended every SC meeting at his branch in the last 3 years plus he's been to loads of away games through them. He said another guy at the same branch missed out despite having more points because he tends to apply for his own tickets rather than through the branch.

A poster on here said they bagged a couple of tickets in the City end at the last minute just by walking up to the ground and asking around.

There were also 4 seats empty in the row behind me which I found quite galling considering how many points the match sold out at - maybe there was a perfectly innocent explanation such as a group of people that couldn't make the game at the last minute but it wouldn't surprise me if those tickets had found their way on to one of those ticket websites but didn't get sold due to the extortionately high prices that were being charged (after all, it's only Bournemouth away in the league - it's not exactly the Champions League final)

Thinking back we used to get programmes for people, they must of wanted the tokens.
Early token whoring !!
Think I used to get away programmes from a shed thing in front of the main stand ,near the pink final van that printed pinks with no full times in

You didn't need to really. Even the token system was flawed as you could buy the program from the souvenir shop a few days later.

Other people can phone up, uses your reference and points... And have the tickets posted to their address. This is where it falls down

Surely they'd need to know that person's personal customer reference and home address to try that.

Thanks for the detailed response and I'm pleased you managed to get a ticket.

As a general rule, the current system probably works, but for some games when City know they will sell out an such a high points level, perhaps the club could put additional checks in place.

For instance, if anything is riding on the last game at Swansea I'd hate to miss out on a ticket to someone who's points level is below mine but gets in via a mate of a mate.

So, for such a game would it be viable for names to be put on the back of the ticket and checked against the tickethoders seasoncard by a representative from City at the turnstiles.

Yes they need to know your details. For instance, you need a Chelsea ticket but don't have the points, I give you my city 'supporter’ number and details.. You phone up, order it and CAN have it sent to your address. Definitely it was possible to do this before I was ill.

As I've been poorly for a long time, another lad uses my season card and gets other mates to order, using my points.

When you arrived at the ground, there was a sign above the turnstile advising 'today's match number'... You then removed that number voucher from your book. They never ran in sequence, this was to try and stop touting. First game of season could be number 14
