Do United and Arsenal have 'special relationship' ?

We didn't win the league with games to spare, otherwise we would have had one if we wanted.

Pidge where in the rule book is this stated that there has to be games left or where for that matter is it just common knowledge that you only get a guard of honour if you win it with games to go. Does this extend to all games remaining or just the first thereafter or is it just made up as we go along to suit the requirements. It's a bullshit idea and it's made even more of a mockery to only give it for games left. If its to be done it should be first game after only or first game of following season but personally I think it's a rag idea and its been adopted because Sir Alex says so. He has influence in the game dontya know, Craig Brown said so this morning.

It shouldn't happen at all, Arsenal shouldn't respect it and kick them off the park

Say what the fuck you like but I've just watched Fergurson and Wenger's pre-match press conferences and it's hard to tell which want is licking the other one's arse the most.

One of sky's so called experts said he's pleased to see Arsenal are giving United the 'traditional' guard of honour. Traditional since when has a few years of this bullshit become traditional. It's utter crap and sychophantic bullshit. No I don't believe your only allowed a guard of honour if you win the league with games remaining does this mean every team they play between now and the end of the season guarantees a guard of honour. Fucking bullshit. Please can somebody point me in the direction of this you only get a traditional guard of honour if you win the title before the end of season one rule for them and not for us shite.

Listening to Talksport this morning Craig Brown was on with Keys and Gray and he's going on about 'How great Fergie is, Fergie this and Fergie that, Fergie gives advice to other clubs about which managers to go for, Fergie gives advice to managers about which jobs to go for' and then the crème de la crème from Brown 'Fergie is extremely influential in football and rightly so' and in the background there's little chuckles like its some old boys club all sliced up and no one questioning just why the fuck is it right that he's so influential. Surely being a manager of not just any club but one of the worlds biggest clubs and being so influential in the game is the complete opposite of all that is right and correct and by any just cause isn't right. Surely having influence is anything but right.

Fuck it I'm just another idiot that believes there's something not quite right going on here.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson added: "I am glad Arsene has done that. That is what great clubs should do."
Ferguson said: "When they came to Old Trafford in 2002 and Sylvain Wiltord scored the only goal, we did exactly the same."

In addition to 2002, United gave Arsenal a guard of honour at Highbury in 1991, and honoured champions Chelsea at Old Trafford in 2005. Jose Mourinho's Chelsea returned the gesture two years later.

Sycophantic or not the practice has been around some years and even us classless rags go along with it if the circumstances arise.

It only happens in the match immediately following a team winning the league, and only if it's won with games to spare.

Speaking personally I agree with some of your sentiments but it's nowt to do with "one rule for them shite" as I've no doubt you'll eventually find out.

Bully for you lot so it coincided almost with the re-invention of football and Sky's 'A Whole New ball Game', the old cartel of Arsenal, Chelsea, The Rags and err Oh yeah your real rivals Liverpool. although it's highly doubtful they'll be enjoying one in the near future. Still waiting for somebody to give me the reasons as to why it only happens with a remaining game to go and who decided that one then and why your not deemed worthy enough to get one the following season. Personally I think its something the 'big boys' like to do to each other to show their class above the rest? Fight all season then lets show everyone we're class with a guard of honour.

Bully for us? I couldn't give 2 shits about a guard of honour to be honest and have been pretty pissed off myself seeing Utd players line up to applaud Arsenal and Chelsea teams onto the pitch as champions.

I was just replying to your apparently misguided belief that the whole thing was (a) a fairly new concept (unless that's how you define at least 20 odd years) and (b) something that's only in place for Utd.

Given your strongly worded sentiments above I trust you will turn your back on any such tribute should City win the league with games to spare over the coming years?

I'll probably just stand there at my seat and moan like an old fart about it being worthless or whatever. You see the thing what I struggle with is that if Champions are honoured with a guard of honour when games are remaining, then when it's won in the final game, and for the first time by a club in 44 years one would hope the previous reigning Champions managed by a Knight of the Realm and respected throughout football along with his captain whom represents one of if not the biggest club on the planet would have at least congratulated us the new Champions by name. Class, dignity and respect went flying out of the window in the aftermath of Aguero's title winning goal and for a club of United's stature that really is inexcusable. Let the masses wallow in Arsenal's guard of honour and let Sky fawn all over Wenger and Fergie for being two great warriors down the years, me I'll turn my back and content myself with doing a Poznan on the couch.

As for the term 'Bitters' Pidge I've never quite understood this one. They were successful year on year whilst we were yo-yoing the divisions. Some daft fucker probably Boyley termed us as Bitters, Liars, Massives, Berties and all come from Stockport. They all latched on to it and if ever I tried to have a conversation with any of them they just threw these terms our way. They would and could never debate football let alone our cross city rivalry because very few even know their own history. I've actually got a rag mate that once asked me to tear another rag apart for him in an argument about their own history so little did they both know about their own club.

I've never got their humour. I've actually given up arguing with them and boy was I a fucker in my younger days because their comebacks are so poor. I used to long for a good debate/banter with them and for them to call us something relevant rather than bitter, massive, berties etc...

They recognise these terms because they see it in themselves, oh yes bitterness towards any club that should ever have the temerity to beat them on the pitch. Even when they've won the title they cannot resist the temptation to throw it in the face of their rivals. Fucking despise the c***ts because they are shallow classless bitter bastards.

Rar rar, excellent post
