Do you like / get on with the neighbours

I live in a row of 6 terrace houses where at the back of the properties we have parking spaces (actually our individual driveways, our property) , so we are a bit on top of each other that way.
Step out your back door and you generally bump into a neighbour. You HAVE to be considerate

Have to say im very lucky and they are all great. Not been there 2 years yet and our immediate neighbour has our spare keys and we have his. He will take parcels in when we are at work , put our bins out of we forget, bring em in. We lend tools etc off each other. Top guy
Other neighbours it might just be a polite hello , quick chat

No one close enough to be considers neighbours thankfully unless we count the odd rabbit and grass snake I see when outside the gates.

Upstairs is a nice lad. Long gone next door was an absolute nuisance but she did a midnight run a year back.

Air b&b on one side and a family (city fans) on the other side. Students digs and the odd family on the opposite side of the road. I get along with everyone, really. So many different cultures on one Salford street. Chinese couple live next to the b&b..the house after is a Lithuanian family. Indian family directly opposite. I get on well with the family from The D R of Congo .... Jeirre and his wife and kids. They're a good laugh. I have a smoke with him. Pipes of peace.

a woman in her 80s who knows everything and is never wrong about anything.
I wonder if you live next door to my Mam ? ;-)

My surrounding neighbours are good as gold, unfortunately there’s some new builds at the end of our ‘cul-de-sac’, mostly they’re wankers who think they’re something special, so there’s a bit of a divide.

Know all my neighbours by name on our side of the Avenue we live on, apart from two couple’s they're really good people.

The two exceptions are a **** called Steve who threatened my Dad (lived on the same avenue) when he was about 85 when my old fella asked him to tell his son to move his car as it was blocking his drive. The other one, (I’ve posted before) just over a year ago whilst having a drinks with a few neighbours said, “Adolf Hitler wasn’t all bad, he just didn’t go about it the right way” my immediate neighbour was there and she’s Polish, her country had 6m people massacred in WW2, I told him he was out of order and not spoken to him since, he’s a dick.

Shows how nice my neighbours were when most of them came to my Dad’s funeral.

20, 50 and especially 100 years ago, your neighbors, if you could count on them, might well save your life. And life was fraught with peril - a disease easily curable using antibiotics might well prove fatal in times past.

And so, it seems to me, that good neighbors were far more important in the past; and friendships were thus much more likely to form.

Moreover, people were less likely to move in the past. Over time, relationships build.

Nowadays...

I live in a condo. I've lived there for 20 years. During this time I've spoken to my neighbors on the right, at most 50 times. I know their names. They seem nice. But I don't know them at all. I do not consider them friends.

Other neighbors have come and gone over the years. Some were very nice; but in nearly every case, I didn't even learn their names.

One last observation...

I loved Halloween as a kid. Dress up, and go about the neighborhood for candy and treats. Awesome.

Now though? I'd love to have neighborhood kids visit my condo. I'd give them candy and talk to them and their parents. Yet, there's been no "Trick or Treat" Halloween knock on my condo door - not one - for 20 years running.

It's a sad thing, I think. But for me, at least, the age of having deep friendships or at least good acquaintanceship with neighbors is dead.
