Why would anyone be shocked that managers get bonuses for improving productivity by sacking workers? It's just capitalism.
A weird concept that doesn’t bring anything to the country. In fact, it costs.

Boss cuts 2 jobs, saving 60 grand, the pays himself an extra 30. Who pays more into the country?

Playing Devil's Advocate here but if the two sacked workers were on £30K each, they would have paid £3.5K income tax each. That's £7k.

If the unscrupulous boss were to get a £30K payrise, that would be £12K more tax (at 40%.) If he/she/they/it earned over £150K then it is taxed at 45% and therefore be £13.5K to HMRC.

Playing the devils advocate is one thing, the reality of that person offsetting their tax to some haven means that we would get very little. And who does those 2 jobs?

What about the indirect tax, the two workers would spend more of their money on the economy than the boss I reckon.
