Got a sneaky feeling it will be same result of the 1950 world cup match........

"Blind arrogance"? What the fuck are you on about???

The USA are more than a 5 1/2 to 1 for a win and more than 3 to 1 for a draw. If the lines are like this, it means something. Sometimes they get it wrong but you dont see the bookies going broke, do you??

Wasn't referring to anyone one here, but a lot of naive people I know, and some of those on tele. Let's call them Alexi Lalas, and the like.

Also, re:"We invented the bloody game:" it's a mindset that has held England back since, well, they invented the game. This is a mindset that should have been done away with in the '50s, not with the USA 1-0 fluke result, but with Sebes' Hungary beating England 6-3 at Wembley. I recommend Jonathan Wilson's Inverting the Pyramid for more.

I'm reading that now, actually! I'm about 200 pages in, and it's just marvelous. Where food for the brain is concerned, that book is to die for.

I have a feeling that the USA are going to do a job on us, US football has improved considerably in the past few years and they have plenty of players who are at good european teams. Also I have to say from what I have seen in recent games I think England are very average and will struggle in the tournament.

What does everybody else think?? Sorry to piss on everyone's chips a few days before it all kicks off!!

Whos that 2 goal keepers Clint Dempsey and that donavan (sp) wow they are good!!!

Said it before and I'll say it again, have a horrible feeling USA could just sprint through our defence...

Ha ha that Lalas can be a real schmuck at times. He does a lot just for a reaction I would gather. The same for Wynalda. I couldnt stand Waldo he first appeared on Fox Football Fone In but he grew on me a bit as the season progressed!!!

Nah, I'm not with you on that, Frank. I used to like Wynalda on ESPN as he was the only one there at the time with the balls to speak his mind, but he's insufferable on FFF. That show hasn't been the same without Steven Cohen, and even then it wasn't great.

Well they'll definately keep a clean sheet (USA) with superstar defender and potential City signing Jay DeMerit. There's your superstar ladies and gents, welcome him to the club! Jay DeeeeeeeeeeMerit! Woooooooo =D LOL!!

On topic though, no I think we should beat USA with comfort / ease if we want to be taken seriously in the competition as a potential winner of the whole thing. Can't foresee a loss to these at all.

The one who does the Serie A games?
No,I was watching City on a stream (Premier League) he was with a ex player(May have been Warren Barton?) and the Presenter.

Bald in his fifties

England 3-1 USA
Warren Barton works for FSC, aye, but the only Irishmen I can think of from FSC are Keith Costigan - younger guy - and the dude who commentates on Serie A matches. I might be missing someone, though.

From Kentucky, USA here. I'm going to watch at a rag's house who grew up in London. I just filled out a bracket that has England winning 3-1 against the US.

After winning the group they will beat Germany, then South Korea in the quarters. Then I have them beating Ivory Coast in the semis on penalties-- yes penalties. Sorry but in the final, they lose 1-0 to Spain. No need to watch now, sorry to spoil it for anyone.

"Does anyone else think USA will beat us???"

Why, are they playing City or what?
Us is always City, never anyone else.

Having said that I fancy a 2-1 victory to England (although USA did do ok against decent oppo in the Confeds Cup last summer didnt they?)

England v USA - Kick off 19:30.

USA will turn up at 19:41 and then claim victory.

I've never been able to stand Wynalda on tele. But, he is a friend of a friend, and I've met him a couple of times, and he seems like a very pleasant and intelligent person, which is a very different reaction than what I think of when I see him on tv.

Could Tommy Smyth (with a y, fucking munting bald man with glasses, likes to call the goal the "auld onion bag") be the Irishman you're thinking of? He works for ESPN though.

-- Thu Jun 10, 2010 5:21 pm --

How on earth do you have CDI in the semi finals? The left side of their defense (Bamba and Tiene) and goalkeeper (Barry) are terrible, out at the group stage.
