Does Gary Cook understand this club?

I think he's right. It's the connotation of death. In terms of global marketing, it isn't the best of phrases. He understands the statement of loyalty it contains, I think, but is considering it from a wider point of view.

i think he has heard some of us sing this at the game and the way in which we sing it.we sing it in a slow deppressive way i feel,as if to say i cant take much more of this but we carry on regardless..iiii knowww i aaaam am suuuuree iiii am am cityy till i dieee! but if we sang it abit faster then it might seem different.by the way i am city till i die!!

The guy is an idiot...If he hasnt made a fool of himself once with the Kaka debacle he goes and comes out with another gem.
Why would you say in the evening news that you didnt want to hear the chant 'City till I die' anymore. Ive been a blue for 42 years and that song is all about pride in your club...doesnt the buffoon see that.
Mr Cooke..please go back to doing what you were hired to do. Be seen and not heard. Im sure all fans appreciate what is going on at the club and are all very excited but dont make us become a laughing stock to the football world with your stupid comments.

Do you really understand the empire you have been asked to help build. If not just go into your local manchester pub on a match day for some much needed lessons.

I think you are beginning to believe the hype that was written about you when you took the role. The future is about Manchester City...Not Garry Cooke

three posts, all of them deeply negative. must try harder!

<Consumer friendly stuff.>

Talks a lot of sense does Gary Cook. There was a time and a place for the defiance of 'CTID', but we're surely ready for it to be consigned with the monotonous, mediocre shite like "typical City".

Yes he does to answer the OP He understands what needs to be done to drag it into a bright new and successful future Typical City I've been sick of that for years its a excuse for failure and Cooke knows that We must have a positive attitude we have billions of reasons to do so I have been harping on for years that accepting mediocracy means that is what you get we have accepted and called players good and heros just because they go out and do their job and then we say he gives 100% and if they score against the Rags then they become cult heroes ffs.

Yes GC is sot on lets ban this typical City and as regards the City to I die yes he does have that somewhat wrong but it came about in the face of adversity we no longer need it so lets forget it and look forward to a bright and successful future soon we will be shout from the rooftops have you seen us and what we have done.

To call him an idiot and a buffoon well you should look in the mirror

As far as "City til I die", again, this is a fairly recent additon to City folklore, and certainly wasn't around in the 1970's and 1980's as far as I recall.

Definately around much earlier than you or Dave seem to recall, I remember this being sung in the Kippax in the early/mid eighties. The song was taken from the tune of a TV series of the time called "Only when I Laugh" (circa 1979-1982) The theme had the same City til I die tune but was actually,

I'm H-A-P-P-Y,
I'm H-A-P-P-Y,
I know I am,
I'm Sure I am,
I'm H-A-P-P-Y.

(click to here the tune)
