Does kolarov and boateng coming back rock the boat?

It would be difficult for anyone ,even kolarov or Boateng , to improve on Citys defensive display last Saturday , the back four did a very effective job in shutting out a top notch strike force .......... why fix what isn't broke , until it breaks?

Managers get paid to fix things just before they break ;)

Jerome and Kolarov should, in theory, allow us to defend just as well but also improve our attacking play.

I can see what you're saying , but sometimes 'tinkering' with something that's already working can make a situation worse ..........and not only that , shouldn't players expect to stay in if they're playing well?

My mate took his car in for a service a month ago which cost him more than £500 ........ the car had been absolutely fine previously , but he's had nothing but trouble with it since the service , and has had to take it back to the garage twice!

Don't forget Kolarov has brilliant set piece delivery. That should add something extra to the side too!

We've had some horrendous injuries and hopefully once that clears up the true strength in depth of our squad will be seen. If Zab and Micah or Boyata get in there ahead of Boateng and Kolarov, fair play to them - they will have deserved it and will have my full support on the pitch.

However, Mancini brought in Boateng and Kolarov to address 2 specific problems - firstly, we were susceptible a the ball over the head of the full pack, particularly at left back. With two 6 footers this issue is solved. Secondly, when the opposition gets players behind the ball, we need full backs to join or even start the play, stretching the opposition and creating gaps. Both Kolarov and Boateng get forward often, have pace, and deliver a great ball.

Fair play to those who have played recently though, Boyata did a sterling job and Zabaleta deserves a medal for his willingness to commit to the cause. Also, Zab's self control after getting booked against Chelsea shows he is learning and becoming a better player. I still feel he'd do a great job in midfield too in a De Jong type of role.

We've been solid this season but haven't scored enough goals.

That's because our current formation works best with attacking fullbacks.

That's why these two should improve us significantly.

Once the pair of them are fully fit and integrated into the team I expect we'll become a much more attacking side. It may also mean we dont need to play with a designated wide midfielder every match, and allow for a front three of Tevez, Balotelli and Silva.

It will obviously rock the boat with regards to the players being dropped, because they will believe they have performed well. However, Kolarov and Boateng are better players, so need to be picked. As for them bombing forward, I'm sure Mancini will tell them what their role is, and if they decide to bomb forward without his authority he'll give them a nice talking to.

It can only be a good thing getting our new signings fit. Zab has done a great job as usual but he isn't a left back, also Kolarov will give us even more strength and height at set pieces.

I think you will find that Kolorov will be taking most of the set pieces.
His curling free-kicks during pre-season were sexy.

That's a mouth-watering prospect, can't wait to see it.

-- Tue Sep 28, 2010 8:47 pm --

A good point, but we do have to defend set pieces too ;-)

Think about how much space our fullbacks got against Chelsea (last seasons Champions!) on Saturday in advanced positions, now imagine Boateng and Kolarov getting that sort of freedom with the type of delivery they are capable of. I can't wait to have them in the side.
