In all honesty, yes it does bother me. I’m fed up constantly correcting my brother in law, in particular, who supports Liverpool (who else?) and other members of the wife’s extended family. Strangely enough it’s the United and Liverpool supporters that seem most bothered. Strange that isn’t it. Her West Ham supporting older brother doesn’t have the same problem.
What it has done though is, it has diminished my love of the game as it stands at the moment. Seeing what it has become and other fans showing a complete lack of self awareness in having got the game in the shit it’s in.
In short football is not a sport anymore it’s a business. Any pretence of it being a sport has been totally killed off and we have a management that is better at business than the cabal that is trying to react constantly to our innovation to get around their constant shifting of the level playing field.
The fact we play beautiful football just keeps me interested, but the pretence of sport is gone.
