Dominic Cummings

I don't know what's worse, the government adviser who is an arrogant bugger or the PM who is supporting him. The press gang dismissing social distancing completely and the left wing salivating for a revolution that will never happen.

We live in a world of soundbytes and mirrors bud ;)

I'm surprised by the amount of surprise shown on here, that there is a lower limit to our "equal society"than is advertised.

I’m not sure it’s surprise as such, more anger at how brazen it is and the potential impact of it. One of the key tenets of the public messaging has always been, quite rightly, that the virus itself doesn’t differentiate and therefore the rules being applicable to all.

It all depends on their own circumstances and this is something none of us know. Let’s say they aren’t in a position to help, then what?

I’ve no idea what the actual circumstances were but find it odd that the details are coming out piece meal as though they’re justifying the actions taken after people who were in similar situations, and who had followed the lockdown rules, have expressed their outrage.

If Mr Cummings genuinely had no option other than to take his son to his parents’ house then the full facts could have been provided when the story first broke. After all, he prides himself on his superior intelligence so should have anticipated the questions that would - and indeed, have been raised.

In any event, there was no justification for the visit to Barnard Castle so regardless of whether he needed to take his son to his parents for safeguarding, he has still clearly broken the lockdown rules that were in place at that time when the majority of us were following them, which hasn’t been easy.

Agreed.

As we know, some people are more equal than others.

Still puzzling that, what with the general publics trust in politicians being so very low,why we'd be so shocked at this brazeness.

You get what you pay for or vote for after all.

Still my favourite quote about him

One is prone to spouting wonkish technobabble full of long words, dresses like he fell through a wardrobe backwards and had random items stick to him. The other is a fictional character from a 2000s Channel 4 sitcom Nathan Barley

Classic whataboutery.

If they have done anything remotely similar to Cummings and then had the machines of government lie and seek to orchestrate a cover up about it, they deserve the same treatment.

Otherwise, get out of your basement, drop the 4chan outlook on life and treat each case on its merits.

Thousands of families have been faced with a similar predicament (unless you somehow believe that Cumming''s wife was a unique case in being a parent who got it whilst living with her spouse and child(ren).)

The vast, vast majority of them realised that it put them in a hugely concerning position but they had been advised to isolate and see it out - hoping that, given that cases of incapcutation due to Covid 19 among healthy parents of young children are extremely rare, they would retain the capacity to look after their children whilst ill.

And that is exactly what has worked out for thousands of them that followed the rules.

And the same worked out for Cummings, seeing as their story is that they did not actually need the child to be cared for by the family they travelled to.

Thousands of families - some single parents included, no doubt - chose to sit it out and follow the advice, knowing that the numbers said they would still manage to care for their children.

Why the so called arch numbers geek could not manage to read the stats in the same way, I don't know. Perhaps arrogance clouded his judgement.

People are willing to accept it as long as it is aligned with their own mindset (ends justify the means and all that). That doesn’t apply in this case though, which is why the anger about it is from everyone.

I really don’t think it’s shock though, like I said it’s anger.

Nobody who is screaming for his resignation knows the actual circumstances, that’s my point. Not sure if he even did go to Barnard Castle. I know it doesn’t look good for him but surely until the facts are known then all we have is a media witch hunt. Should Kyle Walker be sacked by City for what we know he all did? Should any company sack an employer if they know that he / she has broken lockdown. I personally think this is a media witch-hunt as he has made many enemies over the past 12 months and they do say revenge is a dish best served cold. Maybe all those reporters should also be sacked for not maintaining social distancing
